pah! call that snow, that looks like our normal surrey snow . we have more than a foot. knee deep!

 

We don't get snow very often - so that is quite a lot for round here........I hate it anyhow, so I'm not jealous.....can't wait for it all to melt!

We don't get it normally everyone else does. I love it like a big kid everything is soooooooooooo pretty! and clean!

Mine are in a covered walkin run , so are pottering about as usual. I did let them out at 12 for their 'playtime', they went haring up the garden before grinding to a halt and looking around as if to say ' where's the dirt gone ?', I went out at 3pm to put them back in, only to find they'd put themselves back in, first time ever !!

 

As an aside , what's with the times on the postings ? I know Herefordshire is a bit behind the times, but the posted times are half an hour ahead of my laptop !

Posh and Pecks braved the snow for a bit earlier today (about an hour ago) and had to be carried back into the run when Dave had had enough. It's well covered (and under our decking so sheltered!)

 

Here they are exploring the great white wilderness, eyes popping from the heads in surprise!

 

 

And here's a pic of the run which looks better inside than it does on the outside here. You can see the Eglu with a covering as that is slightly less sheltered.

 

 

I got home just now an hour after these were taken and tried to coax them out. They were having none of it! What sensible girls.

We've got a trampoline in the garden so there isn't any snow under it...all 3 of our girls are pecking there and avoiding the snow hehe

The Surrey snow dumped a foot on us and it is still going (23 hours now)

Unimpressed hens refused to leave the run until a carpet of mealworms were put down and even then some were left. Have put in the pit props so hopefully no more run collapsing!

I got kicked out of work just after lunch so arrived home about half four. Let the girls out, Cori was whinging as usual!

 

They pottered about the patio as there wasn't much snow there, but wouldn't go on the grass once Chive proved with one foot how deep it was.... I gave them their second bowl of mash of the day in their nice dry run, which shut them up a bit!

Well I went out the let them out this AM and they don`t want to know. I also wanted to get some pics of the raised veggie beds that I finished yesterday but all is covered in snow.

 

These were taken first thing this morning, it is three times as bad now and still falling.

 

The girls are NOT impressed. They had gone back into the Eglu by the time I had got my camera out.

 

 

You can kind of make out raised beds and path. The Omlet fencing went up yesterday too!

Well I wish mine would stay inside! The 5 week old giant table birds have been in the Rablu since Saturday I planned to take them back in overnight, but none of them looked cold and they were spending plenty of time in the run - not one looking cold, except me going to check on them every 5 mins and putting the hot water bottle in overnight.

 

I had to force them in to bed at 6 pm tonight (they have water & food inside) - the run is fully covered, but they love eating the snow off the run bars.

 

So some very happy snow chickens here.

yep A Egg you can't be far from me, we had that much, mine only went as far as snow then stopped like there was an invisible barrier & they seemed to be pretending that it wasn't there. sort of dunno what it is so it isn't there if we don't acknowledge it that was for a full half hor this afternoon before makin a hasty retreat back indoors

Mine hid under my Land Rover for a bit, but other than that, they were charging around the garden, then they decided to sit under the patio table for a while.

My big girls have also been out in the garden in the snow - there was an almighty noise. Bella - my big fat chicken jumped up on the run roof (as she always does) - it is covered in corrogated plastic to keep the run dry ...but that gets awfully slippery when covered in snow so she jumped up and fell off! The others then ran away from the landing site making even more commotion.

I struggled to open the eglu this morning so lifted them out via the nesting box so i could pour hot water onto it without the risk of hurting them. They have scratched an area clear of snow yesterday so seem quite happy pecking away. Still got 3 eggs yesterday - will see how may I get today.

Glad to hear that it is not just my girls refusing to come out of the eglu We are expecting another big dump of snow on Thursday so I am going to pick them up a shower curtain to keep the snow out.

Our igloo run was quite cosy... the snow was so deep it looked more like an igloo in there. The girls had lots of porridge but only managed 30 seconds outside of the run.

 

Dixie is a bit under the weather today and not eating... going to keep an eye on her
