Tiggy
thank goodness I had my steps built last week, heaven knows how I would have got down that bank to the girls, - toboggan the roof on the run is holding up well, so my girls are spoiled no snow insilde the run but they are pecking at it through the mesh, I put up some extra clear plastic corregated sheets on the sides yesterday as wind breaks, spoiled girls they are

Barkisland
Pleased to say Gerty is getting stuck into the porridge! I put half porridge and half dry mash in a pyrex dish and placed it inside the eglu, it seems to have been a hit - they'll be expecting it every day now heheheh! My next door neighbour has been watching with interest and thinly veiled amusement as I traipse up and down the garden with bowls of steaming food
Electricbarbarella
my girls seem to b loving it, really shows up how mucky the whiote chooks are though. bit cold for a bath me thinks.
Mutrix Farmers
The girls took one look and stayed resolutely in the run. It took a dish of poached white fish to entice them out. The stuff falling out of the sky seemed to bother them more than the stuff on the ground. Once out they stayed out until it was bedtime! shibby69
My girls are perking up a bit now, i've just given them a bowl of porridge - they're not looking too impressed at the weather and didn't venture out of their run when the door was open so i've closed it again and covered them over. I wanted to be able to have them out all day today - yesterday was their first day living together and they spent the night together last night after weeks of introductions and i'm worried being cooped up all day will annoy them and make them pick at each other(so far so good though!). They were a two, and two single hens (story for another post/thread!) and have formed a four now and do seem to be getting on really well so far, i'm really really pleased
Cooks
hubby has been home and covered their run with clear plastic, I had earlier shovelled them a snow clear patch and moved the eglu with the boys HUGE help to that area so they are MUCH happier now! craftyhunnypie
Mine still won't come out of their runs, even Sir Songebob - who normally runs & attacks my feet! I've made them a snowman & snow rooster . The snow rooster looks more like Casper the ghost! Emma.x
bluekarin
Ours have been out today, for a short while this morning and then I popped them back in their run. About an hour later I let them out again. I've just heard an awful racket which I have never heard them do, so I looked outside to see it was snowing huge flakes and Daisy was shouting/crowing at it! I'm thinking her feet have got too cold too, so I have put them all back in the run. I might let them out for half an hour before bed, but see what its doing out there first. poachedegg
We let ours out at lunchtime for a little supervised free range - took them a couple of minutes before they would venture onto the snowy grass:
helenmb
My next door neighbour has been watching with interest and thinly veiled amusement as I traipse up and down the garden with bowls of steaming food They won't be thinking that if you offer them eggs in the future me thinks Its started to really snow here now - I spoke too soon earlier. Plus I watched the news and weather and lunchtime and it looks terrible in Kent and London. Hope it clears up for you guys soon.

Rhoderunner
Mine are stuck at the bottom of the run in the dry sheltered patch. With a layer of snow blocking their return to the eglu. They're not budging! What will they do when it gets dark?! They've only been living here a few days. They must wonder what on earth is going on?! dancing cloud
Mine whinged at the snow in their yard this morning, but still wanted to be let out into the garden before I came to work. There was a lot of complaining, but they were rummaging in the flower beds when I left. The snow here has now become sleety rain, so I expect they will either be keeping dry in the shrubbery or have gone back into their yard to be under cover (half of it is covered by the carport), probably still complaining! Interesting to read other chooks won't come out, even for food - there's nothing gets between my little monsters and their brekkie
braden01
Our girls were having none of it. Clucker ventured to peck at some treats by the entrance but Ginger is sulking in the Eglu. Edited February 2, 2009 by Guest

Jenstuds
My ex-batts seem completely undisturbed by the snow and were happily walking round in it for hours earlier. Though it is only 2 inches deep so perhaps not so bad as some places - though still leg height on a chicken.
Rhoderunner
You are only just down the road from me Rhoderunner, I take it that its pretty snowy with you too. Its trying very hard to settle here now. Nice to know there's someone nearby for advice. I've only had my chickens since Friday. Still snowing and it's settling but probably only about 3 inches so far. They are not moving at all. It doesn't even look like they are eating or drinking. Just in shock! Guest
My garden looks much like that of braden01 today. Was quite worried when I went to open the doors this morning - no complaining from inside about the speed of the breakfast service - that WAS unusual! Honeysuckle usually 'pogos' to be let out every time I appear - but not today! The first time ever that they haven't wanted to roam!
Suzy
After inital reservations, my three have been quite active. We've had 3 eggs and they're out and about - looking rather cute as they hiked their way single file across the garden through virgin snow. If anyone can tell me how to post photos, I have a very amusing set of 3 but I cannot work out how to add them.

Barkisland
Suzy, I re-size mine then upload them onto photobucket, then copy and paste the IMG link for each photo. There may be an easier way, but that's how I do it
