AJuff
I'm getting so excited about the arrival of spring . . . I know there's still snow on the ground but when the sun shines there's warmth in it. This weekend i have pulled the weeds out of the raised bed and covered the ground with black plastic to warm the soil. i have resisted sowing anything just yet and am content to make growing plans. Redwing
yes, it really feels like we are heading for spring, put it this way we are nearer to spring than we are to autumn and that's good enough for me I have started sowing but only things suitable for sowing now, am being generally restrained but the greenhouse is calling..... Lucky you having raised beds, we haven't even built ours yet
Olly
I'm really trying to hold back, because in the past I have sown seeds too early, had loads of straggly plants and it's been too cold to put things out. I need to sit down and work out a plan though! Otherwise I will do my usual thing of suddenly realising that I've left it too late. I'm afraid I don't feel that 'spring' feeling yet ... not till this cold spell is over.

Falkor
Well some of our snow has melted at the patio end of the garden so I have been out there since twelve tidying, weeding, sweeping and even built an extra raised bed along the garage wall! OH stood indoors watching me use his drill and don`t think he was impressed with my heath robinson style approach but hey, I BUILT IT MYSELF!! I only went out there to say high to the chooks!!! Doesn`t time fly when you are having fun! Also it was LOVELY in the sun, spring is coming!! Will spend tonight plotting what to grow where and when! AJuff
I went out to clean out the hens but found all the poo in the run was frozen to the ground and I had a job with a spade to s"Ooops, word censored!"e it up! Also the hose pipe was frozen so the cube had an empty but not a wash!!! Roll on the thaw. However it's just started snowing again!!!! When are your new occupants arriving? Snowy
I'd love to get out there, but I can't see what I can do My bag of compost is frozen solid and all the raised bads have a 5" thick layer of frozen snow on top of them I've not even set foot on the allotment - whenever I drive/walk past it just looks like any other snowy field On the plus side, the lawn is protected from the chooks. I just hope the snow cover is protecting it and not killing it off altogether. I have to get a greenhouse for next year
Chook n Boo Mum
I have to get a greenhouse for next year Snowy, just tootled on to ebay for a mooch & saw this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Greenhouse-3-5MX2M-Large-Walk-In-Green-Garden-Hot-House_W0QQitemZ380102385028QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Home_Garden_Garden_Structures_Fencing_CV?hash=item380102385028&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1229|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 Any good for you? The second eglu was going to be used when one of my existing orps goes broody and we hatch some eggs from a friend but after seeing all the ex-batts being rehomed in the chicken section I think we might be leaning that way now......... my laptop keps taking me to: http://www.littlehenrescue.co.uk

Christian
I organised all my seed packets the other day and couldn't resist planting up some broad bean seeds. I forgot the plant sweet pea seeds in the autumn, so will save myself that job until next week. I have put some covers over a couple of the raised beds to start warming them up slightly. Roll on spring
