Little one has shingles!

Recommended Posts

My youngest at just two has shingles :( You wouldn't know anything was wrong though - touch wood she's got a very mild case. Feeling guilty though because I'm feeling more sorry for myself because she can't go to preschool so that means I lose my only 4 hours of time to myself all week! Didn't get any last week because of the snow and next week is half term - aaaaaghhh!! Have to avoid half my friends as well because they're pregnant.

I know, not very motherly of me, but I needed to get that off my chest!

You are not alone in that line of thought. I was thinking the same thing last week about wanting some kid free time before the half term break. Thankfully they are all back today  Your poor daughter having shingles. My three haven't had it but they all had chicken pox one summer one after the other, so we didn't go anywhere that summer

Me time is very important, especially when it is so limited, so if your child is ill but not sick with it then it can be frustrating. I hope she is better soon!

I hope your daughter is better soon. My hubby had shingles and he was in so much pain so its good that your daughter has it mildly.

I have just had a conversation with a friend at school (mum to 5) boys and she was saying how she feels she has had no 'me' time what with the snow and the older ones being at college and in and out of the house all day.

It does get us all down sometimes so you are not alone. :D

Thanks everyone. Helps to know I'm not the only one! Will probably have to miss college tonight too because OH is on a conference call most of the evening. He won't hear her if there are any problems. Difficult call, because right now she's playing with her older sister like there's no problem!

Does anyone know if shingles gets progressively worse, or if you pretty much know how bad it is by the end of day 2 (which this is)?

Hope she stays well and gets over shingles soon. My "me time" was cut short this Sunday, I get Sunday from 11is til 5 every Sunday - it was cut short last week too, I get really resentful when that happens (unreasonably too  ) but when you get so little and you spend the rest of your life working and looking after everyone else then "me time" is SOOOOO precious. So don't feel bad for missing it, it must mean that you still have a sense of yourself and who you really are and that me time is really working for you :lol: Only half term to get through, by then your littley will be well hopefully and you can have your time back to yourself! (Mind you, I'm a saddo and always spend the first bit walking the dog and the second bit cleaning the house THEN it's time for MEEEEEEE!!):lol:

Thank you everyone - I'm feeling better even if she isn't. Fingers crossed she won't get worse. She's like a chicken though - doesn't normally tell you when she's feeling poorly! Have to wake her up in half an hour and persuade her to drink a small cup of really horrible medicine. Dentist won't be impressed, but I have a sweetie ready as bribery.

Well I've learnt something tonight, I thought shingles was caused by the chickenpox organism lying dormant in a nerve following chickenpox and then becoming active but your little one can't have had it already. :?

Hope she's not affected too much bless her. :D

No, you were right 1st time, she must have already had chickenpox, even mildly to develop shingles.

Clur's case was more unusual but not impossible, where a person has more than one bout of chickenpox, but immunity is usual after one episode.
