Really excited & scared now! Just ordered!

Recommended Posts

Just placed my order on Omlet's website for our cube and chickens! Really excited now, but a little bit scared now too!

Gotta get hubby to clear out the shed for the bins of food to go in and all the other chickeny bits and bobs.

How should I keep the grit? Does that need to be in a tin or something?

Aaarrggh - all these questions!!

:D Congratulations!

This is a familiar pattern. First you spend weeks surfing the Omlet forum and the shop, even putting an Eglu in the basket sometimes, and then cancelling the order before it gets to the point where you have to pay.

Then you look at the garden, measure up, do the sums again, make a decision, go ahead and order - and immediately have a panic attack thinking 'what have I done? How can I possibly keep chickens? I must ring Omlet and tell them not to deliver'!

Don't panic - just breathe deeply and hold your nerve. The next stage is increasing excitement, leading to inability to sleep the day before delivery, and hours spent pacing up and down at the front window waiting for the Omlet van to arrive.

And the final stage? Pure pleasure! You will never regret having chickens, its one of the best things I've ever done. Come on here for regular reassurance and answers to your questions, we've all been there. I am almost envious of you being at that first stage again because it is so exciting!

 Congratulations

My OH went through exactly the same situation, added to which she had to convince me that chickens would be a good idea, not least because I had to find the money!

Oh how times change. Two years on and I'm the one that's totally besotted by 'the girls' and love every minute of the chicken experience. So much so that I'm now in negotiations with OH to get permission for two more hens :P.

You'll love it (and Olly's description of events leading up to the 'big day' is just sooo right )

OMG You are my stalker!!! :D How did you know exactly what I have been doing the last few days???

You are SO right! The amount of times I have put a cube in the basket and taken it out again and put a few more things in and took them out again.

But it's done now, I'm either brave, mad or foolish or all three.

Sorry, forgot the important details!

Green cube

6 chickens 3x Miss Pepperpot and 3x Gingernut ranger

2x 1m extension so 3m in total I think? do you think they will have enough room?

Yes, they'll all be fine, especially if you'll be allowing them to free range in the garden once they have all settled in.

Yes they will be allowed some supervised free ranging most days so I think they will be happy little chickens hopefully!

Totally the best thing you will have ever done!

I've had my Omlet girls ....a year on 5th March....what a great day that was.

 Can't believe you have another three weeks on Monday to wait for their arrival.

How lovely! Stay on the forum and don't forget PICS, PICS, PICS!

My two chickens are on the newsletter.....two Buff Sussex which we hatched under a broody in September 08. Welcome to the world of chickens

Olly that accont made me LOL. How true. I only ended up with the eglu because my husband bit the bullet ordered it for me! We now have walk in run with eglu and i am back to the stage of putting a cube in my shopping basket and the chickening out at the last minute. I really want a cube with more chooks but am trying to justify the cost first!. x
