Walk in runs - who built yours?

Recommended Posts

Having looked at lots of pics on here of people's lovely walk-in runs I'm thinking of getting one myself. I'm interested to know if you're all dab hands at a bit of DIY or whether you got professionals in?

I don't think I'd be able to build one and I wouldn't trust my dad either - the bits of our house that are wonky are where he got involved

Thanks!

Becki

I build mine myself and once it was finished I was pleased with it, but while I was doing it, I wished I had got someone else in to do it as it wasn't easy and seemed to take forever, but maybe that was just me. Others have also self built but I have seen someone on here who got theirs built professionally but I can't remember who, but I'm sure they or someone else will come along and tell you who did it.

I does make life easier unless you are very flexible - or short  . Good luck

Yeah where do you find them ?

Mine is more DIY Disaster than talented

We got a joiner to build us the frame and roof and erect it ( as my DIY wasnt up to that) and then we painted , wired and felted the roof .

I did however dig out the space and lay the slabs all by myself with OH watching

I've just started work on my new Walk-in-Run. As you can see, the girls are already taking a keen interest!

By 5:00pm tonight I'd got 3 out of the 12 rows of slabs down. Got the week off work from Monday (half term, kids will be 'helping'), so should have the base complete by the end of the week. The new run (from Aviaries4U) arrives early March. I keep telling OH that it's a birthday present to myself, but really it's just an excuse to get more chooks..

Will either be two Sussex Stars

or two Speckled Stars

Can't quite make my mind up yet .

....and before anyone suggests it, getting OH to agree to four new hens might be pushing my luck :talk2hand:!

Well, I might have to borrow someone's useful OH at some point then! As I said I don't trust my dad to do it and I don't have an OH (nor likely to get one any time soon - I'm not dating for the whole of 2009!).

We'll make do with keeping the chooks in the (blue eglu) and (cube blue) runs to start off with, but I'd like them to have a larger area to run around in as the previous chooks had half the garden to themselves :)
