chooklady
I just went down to the shed to top up the girls food. I have 2 large, heavy duty plastic bins in my shed with the handles that clip onto the top. One has mash in and the other has mixed corn that my Uncle gave me which was stuff a gamekeeper friend of his gave him. I usually mix 1 scoop of that with amount 6 of mash and then add garlic, DE and some chicken spice. The lid wasn't on the corn bin properly, kids were feeding them some yesterday afternoon. I reached in to get the scoop and something tickled my hand, jumped a bit and when I lifted the lid properly there were 4, yes 4 field mice in my tub. Well things like that don't bother me although I know several people that would have run a mile. What do you do with 4 mice?? I know it's cruel but I thought they will have to take their chance so I let them go on the grass, the girls were out and so was the dog. It gave the chooks some entertainment, they were racing around like lunatics the mice were very quick and all escaped unharmed, Spencer my dog came closest to catching one. Note to self 'tell the kids to make sure the bin is closed tightly' I know it's bound to happen that you'll get vermin around but it did give me a bit of a surprise!! bluekarin
I think that would have made me jump! I can imagine they looked quite cute tucking in, but you don't want them weeing all over the corn Having said that, seeing what my girls pick up in the garden, I'm sure they wouldn't be too bothered

TOMWARDFARM
I would have been off like a shot and wouldn't have gone back in the shed till my wife had stripped the shed and assured me nothing else was lurking!. (note to self, let the wife feed the chooks)

Seagazer
Apparently we have a little mice nest in my OH's toolbox - yuk. The girls food is in a bin but there is a huge bag of corn that is open and outside of the bin. Everytime I put my hand in I'm expecting a little furry visitor **shudder**. I shall have to get another bin. Dave bought a little furry friend in the other day but I managed to rescue it before he ate it. Well, when I say I rescued it, I got my ES to catch it and put it in the garden.
