Phosphorus
For all those with araucanas - I want to try and hatch some eggs under my broody hen (if she obliges again this spring) and am very tempted by araucanas. Can anyone help with possible sources for hatching eggs. I don't want to show - not enough time or inclination - but would like to get some eggs from parents that are pretty true to type for araucanas (just as I might not get the chance again and you nevr know we might breed from them oneday - in my dreams). Anyone know anyone who sells hatching eggs from a good strain of birds and that you would recommend? Do the people on the utility list actually sell hatching eggs? Thanks again and yes we have thought about separate accomodation and what we will do with any cockerels so don't worry about all that. Phosphorus
Of course that relies on Gemma going broody again this year She managed to do it 4 or so times last year when we didn't want her to so what are the odds this year
The Dogmother
I bought my latest two araucana girls from a breeder in Stafford, he frequents the pekinbantams.com forum and uses the log-in of whitester You'll find plenty of leads on there if you look. Good luck
BethBubbles
Try this place: http://www.perfectpoultry.co.uk/index.htm It's where I just got my chicks from and they're great. I was a little worried about one of them but I need not have been, I took it to a local vet who's a chicken expert and he said it's one of the healthiest chicks he's ever seen! That's got to be a good testimonial! Have a look at the list of breeds but I think they did araucanas.

The Dogmother
It's all very exciting, but I'd leave off hatching anything until the weather has made a turn for the warmer
Phosphorus
It's all very exciting, but I'd leave off hatching anything until the weather has made a turn for the warmer Don't worry Claret - I am just getting excited - haven't even got the second housing yet to house broody hen, and said hen is showing no signs yet of broodiness at moment. Just preparing myself for in a few months time, there is no way I want to be actually doing this at the moment (want the weather to be warmer so that I can just leave them all to do what nature intended) - just want some leads to follow to find some breeders. My broody will probably leave it until September with my luck before she decides to get broody again! I am so sad I have to plan and plan and get excited - it can take months sometimes but the anticipation is well worth it
Cooks
I wonder who she's getting the second housing from

The Dogmother
Lavender is a good bird for a really bright turquoise egg.

Regards Whitestar Thanks Whitestar. My other girls are all large fowl - not sure if I will get bantams as I will probably integrate at some point in the future (although I realise LF and bantams together is not impossible). I will put you at the top of my list though for bantams if I go down that route
The Dogmother
Thanks Whitestar, I bought a lavender and a white from you at the end of last summer. Together with an Ancona and a Maran. They are all laying well and healthy. Just one thing to bear in mind (as I frequent both forums) open selling isn't permitted on this one (unlike on pekinbantams.com). I'd hate to have to tell you off
