Internet security problem- calling Fred

Recommended Posts

:(:(:(

Please can anyone help? At times I can be a bit of computer muppet. I recently bought Kaspersky Security for my PC. Whenever I try to install it it tells me that I have a conflict because I am/was using AVG8(free version) and tells me to remove it. I keep trying to remove it - in fact I can no longer find it anywhere on my machine, yet the install program still insists that it is there. Where?

I am now using a different pc as to my knowledge there is no virus software on the other machine.

Any bright ideas or suggestions most welcome.:pray:

Hi folks.

Still not sorted yet. :( I have tried your suggestion Sandyhaschucks and found two more places to delete from, I reboot, try again still comes up woth conflict AVG8. So I tried to search again. Nothing appears this time. BUt still Kaspersky says conflict.

I am now trying to download AVG8 again - it is very slow to do this??seems odd when I have fast internet and pC. So at present waiting to try Fred's method. Will let you know. Thanks :) for the ideas so far.

I had to do that too (download it again and then uninstall) when I had problems with it. I like the CCleaner that ANH's linked to above, my computer's been very slow recently so I'm going to try this.

Luckily I've not had problems with AVG free edition  CCleaner is very good. Can be a bit of a pain as it clears out all your saved usernames etc

Finally, I have solved it. I have a c*** cleaner and I've searched places I've clearly never been before! I downloaded AVG for a third time and FINALLY the uninstall worked.

TBH it has taken longer as I have kept coming back and forth rather than sticking to the task.

THank you everyone. :D:D:dance::dance::clap::clap::clap::clap:

I like AVG as a rule but having been subject of a internet banking attack for a significant amount (thousands) the bank suggested we change before using online banking again. I have been reluctant to even try online since but finally thought I'd better have a go again.

I love this forum :D

Aaargh ... just wondered why I had to log in to the forum instead of being logged on automatically!

I think I should bite the bullet and buy Norton or something ... AVG was fine for a while but then it stopped working.

My hubby is in IT and doesn't rate Norton. He tells all his customers to use AVG and none of them have had any problems with it. You say yours stopped working. Do you know in what way? I take it you've been doing the scans (sometimes I have to start mine manually) and updates?

Ahh, I see why you've had to change. Are you going to be able to get your money back? I would be so furious if someone stole money from me in that way  Well, in any way really. And it sounds like no small amount.

Thankfully we were very fortunate that a) I spotted it within hours of it happening and b) our bank paid the money back to us within 3 days and did not charge us anything or any fees for any transactions in the meantime. They took 4.5K. I have never been so terrified in my life. They know who did it, which branch, where in country etc but they have disappeared from sight. It was a foreign name, probably not on any offical registers here.

It was a hard lesson to learn, even though the outcome was positive. Had to freeze all other accounts just in case too.
