tom123
Well, I have been offline for 3 days and so much has happened with me! here goes... FIRSTLY... on Thursday, I got home from school to find my mum in tears in the chicken run. She told me that she couldn't find fizz We looked down all the roads, gardens and eventually found her in a bush in someones back garden! she now has her wings clipped (don't know why we didn't do it in the first place !!!) and is in the covered bantam run while I am at school and the bantams are in a netted off area. NEXT... Me and my mum have ALWAYS wanted to hatch chicks so we made the most of it when my friend offered me a broody silkie and broody coop, I mean we couldn't say no could we? So we now have 'Cluck' on 5 hybrid hatching eggs that should hatch on the weekend of mothers day. These all already have homes, including the cockerels. FINALLY... We have come to the sad decision to get rid of a few of our chickens Sadly Floyd, Maisy and Daisy are going HOWEVER this means Fizz can go in the covered run with a new friend, either a leghorn, white star or another white egg layer. So thats me done! I am very sad about the bantams but we were overflowing! we don't have a large garden or the money to be feeding all 10 of them including 5 hungry chicks! will update you on the bantams and fizz's new friend. Tom P.S. Anyone going to Salisbury Poultry Auction on Saturday 14th March???

Egluntyne
Nor me. Am glad you found fizz too. Is there something I am not getting here Tom? Why are you hatching more chicks if you have had to get rid of some hens because you were overflowing?

Griffin
Is there something I am not getting here Tom? Why are you hatching more chicks if you have had to get rid of some hens because you were overflowing? I wondered that too. My lot are costing me a small fortune to feed at the moment but if I couldn't pay for their food (and I don't feed the cheapest brands either because I want what is best for my babies) I wouldn't have hatched any chicks. I've got ten hybrids and I'd never rehome any of them just because I wanted to hatch chicks. What if all of your chicks are cockerels? Surely you can't keep them all so the bantams would've gone for nothing. I can completely understand some people need to reduce the size of their flock and rehome some on occasion but to replace older chickens with chicks isn't very nice at all. They're real live animals not disposable objects.
Falkor
Tom does say all the chicks already have homes waiting including any cockrals. (sorry for butting in)
