Madchook
Well it's about time! I decided I *needed* more (esp since dd's preschool teachers asked if I could provide three boxes a week , somehow I couldn't say no exactly). I found there is a rescue today near here and the hens aren't all allocated so I have to ring tomorrow morning and see if they have 3 left-so it is pretty likely Off to buy mash today and scrub out the red eglu. I was wondering though, I have 2 cat boxes- could 2 double-up on a 30 min journey-or would the woman look at me in abject horror? I have a wire brooder/sick cage I guess I could use. I don't want her to think I'm some kind of idiot Um, oh and water, they can either have a trough/ pot or the useless superglug. I think I heard somewhere they are used to teat drinkers, is this so? It is just if I put both in I know they will prob opt for the pot. My girls just will not drink out of it (stand on and poo in it, yes), but it would be good to use it! Anything else I need to know, stupidly excited and hopefully not too disappointed,
Egluntyne
I reckon that two would be fine in a cat box for a 30 minute journey. Good luck. I hope there are some left for you tomorrow. It will be trial and error for the drinking arrangements.
Gallina
The person I went with to collect my battery hens took two empty hen food bags and stuffed two hens into each, and no one batted an eyelid (not even the hens, who went straight to sleep: there wasn't a peep out of them in the car on the way back). alih
Mine both fitted nicely into one cat carrier for a 40 minute journey. They will be fine.
susanbb
My girls went from Guildford to ours in a big cardboard box and not a peep out of them
Omletina Kyckling
I've always transported mine in cardboard boxes which I've cut holes in for breathing. If it's dark in the box, they'll go into roost mode for the journey so will be fine!
