The Dogmother
This year I will be running on my own (Rosie has a prior engagement) again to raise money for a cause which has sadly touched too many families. Some things don’t change, though and my shorts will be back by popular demand! With the help of all our generous sponsors over the years, we have raised in excess of £4,000 to help fund research into the cause and treatment of cancer. As you may know, Cancer Research UK doesn’t receive any Government funding. This year, I'd like to raise £400 if possible. I am running this race on behalf of two people, who sadly died of cancer before they had a chance to run the Race for Life, but I know that both of them would have gladly taken part if they’d had the chance. If you'd like to sponsor me, then you can do so online http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/claret63 Here's a picture from when Rosie ran with me:
jlo
Go for it. DD and I will be at the Basingstoke one in June. I have done the last goodness knows how many years and Beth has joined me for the last four or five. The only problem is that I hate, loathe and detest running. A couple of years ago I did it in just under 25 minutes and that is the best that I think that I am ever likely to do. Oh well - it is the taking part that counts!! The Dogmother
It certainly is what counts jlo. Ther are lots of older and less able 'runners' on our race and it is an inspiration just to watch them. I think that I have got a bit slower over the years though. The Dogmother
Well done Claret! My poor dad died of cancer aged just 33 so I think its a very good cause Thank you for your kind sponsorship Tasha XX So far I have £170 online and £30 on the paper form, so getting there Chillicat; you'll love it, a great event and the dedications that people write on the flyer on their backs sometimes have me in tears while I run. Mrs Webmuppet
I'm thinking of doing the Race for Life this year, I've lost friends and family to cancer over the years including the OH's Auntie last week. I will have to walk most of it 'cause I'm hopeless at running. Just to see how far it was I put my trainers on and my pedometer and walked it today.........only took my little legs an hour and a half. The Dogmother
It's a fantastic even to do MWM, but book up quickly as the places soon fill and most venues have a limit on numbers.

The Dogmother
Just resurrecting this to say that I ran yesterday, 5km in ideal weather, but a new, very hilly course! Doing a quick tot of the paper and online sponsorship totals, it looks like I have raised just pushing £500 so far for Cancer Research UK If anyone would like to sponsor me, then it's still possible; you can see my sponsorhip page on http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/claret63 Nearly didn't get there in time as the postcode they gave for the correct entrance to Cornbury Park wasn't the right one, but no signs, nor stewards to redirect 40-odd cars round to the right gate. They had to delay the start of the race. I got Phil to drop me at that gate, then ran through th park to the start... added an extra mile to the race
