Ziggy
Okie, I might be over-reacting, but our lovely Shaman hasn't been seen since yesterday... I've been out a few times today, so she could have come home, and maybe I wasn't there to see, but she has never been gone for so long, and we've had her since she was a kitten... I've checked outbuildings, called, been shaking food box outside (path is now covered in cat dry food, I guess I shook too hard)... She is Suki's cat, and I keep telling Suki it will be fine, Shaman has probably been in when I was out, she is probably out enjoying the weather and so on and on, but truth is, Shaman has never missed a morning with us, I usually have to chase her away from the breakfast table, and she wasn't here this morning, didn't see her all day, and she isn't here now and I'm worried sick... I keep telling myself she will just walk in any minute, looking totally unconcerned, but I still worry.... Smokey and Shadow do travel around a bit and tend to be away regularly, but even they both get seen most days... Splodge, Pompom and Shaman have always been around... Sorry everybody, but keeping confident brave face in front of child meant having to come and ask for reassurance here... Please someone tells me she'll be back soon... If she is not here in the morning I'll be frantic... Edited March 20, 2009 by Guest

bellekatz
It's been a beautiful day - she has probably been out sunning herself and forgotten the time! Hopefully she will be around soon wondering what all the fuss is about! I had a black fluffy cat once - she went missing for a couple of days and then just turned up by the front door - I think she had got herself locked in someones shed/garage and came out when they opened up again. have you asked any neighbours to check garages etc in case she has been nosey? My Simba used to walk into a neighbours house accross the road and go straight upstairs to stretch out on their bed if they left the back door open I am sure she will turn up so keep positive........... mostin
I hope she turns up soon, my cats always get a bit carried away at this time of year when all the birds start singing so loud. I hope she's just gone bird mad too, fingers crossed.
Ziggy
thanks everyone... she is a bit of a hunter, and i'm hoping she's just close by enjoying herself, but hope she will come soon... I wonder how often I'll wake up tonight and come to see if she is there... knowing myself, I'll keep dreaming about it too, seeing myself come down the stairs to check, and finding her here, a few times before realising it's dreams and fumbling downstairs for real... I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for all the good vibes, I'll mention it to her when she gets back, and hope she feels guilty!!
Ziggy
She's still not back... second morning without having to chase her away from the breakfast table... I did dream about it all night, but in the dream I'd come downstairs and there she was and I was telling her off for worrying us and cuddling her... must have had that dream ten times last night!! But no Shaman to be seen... been out calling again... Will take the girls to school and then come home and make leaflets for all neighbours and along the street with a picture of her, asking them to check sheds and garages and so on... I just so much hope she comes back... can't imagine her being gone for good, she's not even two years old, we want a lot more years with her... Feeling rather upset and so worried... I know of cats going missing for a while, and they then turn up fine, but its just so unusual for Shaman to stay gone, she's a cuddly homely cat... She's the one in my avatar, pretending she is part of Noah's ark...
bellekatz
Don't give up yet - she may well turn up if she is in a shed somewhere and the owners havent opened it up again yet. Do the posters and leaflets so the whole neighbourhood is on the lookout for her - we have a pet recue line here, a local charity thing for lost pets - is there anything like that you coudl ring to report her missing? Is she micro chipped or did she have a collar on? If she is chipped let the microchip people know she is missing. Good luck and dont give up yet........... Groovychook
Hi Ziggy, so sorry she's not come home yet but don't give up hope! She's a lovely looking cat- I've often looked at your avatar and thought what a great photo it is... We're all rooting for her safe return
mostin
I'm so sorry she isn't back yet. I would start on the leaflets straight away. It makes you feel as if you are doing something at least. When one of ours went missing printing them off and pounding the streets kept me sane. You need a lot more than you think you do, 100 goes in no time at all, do at least 500, and make sure it asks people to check sheds, garages and out-houses as that's where's ours ended up being. We mail-shotted the whole estate in the first week and then did further a field. He came back after 2 1/2 weeks quite thin, but ok. I hope this message gives you hope rather than worries you, they can look after themselves for a long time, and still find their way home. Sending positive vibes xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
WitchHazel
Hi Ziggy Definitely start leafletting straight away. When my lad didn't come in for his breakfast (he NEVER misses breakfast) we started leafletting at lunchtime). Put a leaflet in all the houses areound you and on lampposts, asking people to check in their sheds/garages etc. Also, phone any local Vets / rescue places, anywhere that someone might take a lost/injured cat. (btw, Washburn turned up ravenous at about 10pm that night, he had obviously been shut in someones garage or shed) My poster had HAVE YOU SEEN THIS CAT? (3 pictires) Wash is a very friendly, very nosey, skinny ginger cat. He has a white tip on his tail, and a white bib on his front Please… Have a look in your shed/garage & Check your garden & under your car He has been stupid enough to cross Straight Road before, and he might be lying hurt under a hedge. If you find him, or his collar/name tag, please let us know Thank you for your help I;m sure your cat will turn up safe and sound
Ziggy
SHE'S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh thank you everyone, I'd never had to deal with a missing cat before, and wasn't sure when to sound the alarm in the whole neighbourhood, just printed leaflets this morning, then my elderly neighbour (wonderful gentleman, bless him a thousand times) came to the door to say she had been trapped in his house... poor man got woken up at 10.30pm last night, when she triggered his house alarm, and she then ran to hide somewhere in the house... She probably got restless cause I was calling for her in the garden at that time!! This morning he found her under a bed in his spare room and managed to shoo her outside... two minutes later she was back... She's eaten and now gone again, but at least she is safe and alive... Can't say how relieved I am!!!! Called school to ask a friend who works there to let my daughter know her Shaman is back... Now calling the vet practises I called this morning to report her missing, and letting them know she is found safe and sound. It was great hearing all the advise and the support here, I was playing it cool in front of my daughter but was soooo worried inside. Thanks again everyone, it's lovely to hear all this advice when one is worried, especially about starting search so soon, cause I never know if people would take it very seriously when a cat goes missing for 48hrs... I wouldn't worry if it was Shadow or Smokey, they are different in temperament, but just knew what is normal and not for the other cats... I feel bad for the gentleman next door. He is in his 90's, and wasn't at all annoyed, he was very friendly about the whole thing, but I don't want my cat going to bother him like this. What could I do to discourage my cat from entering his house? They go in his garden and he pets them there and none goes inside the house, except Shaman, who is way too curious for her own good (as my avatar shows, she'll get into anything). Does anyone have any ideas? I was wondering whether to investigate cat repellers, like those sonic machines, like we have for foxes (can't even remember what it's called - need to calm down), or something like that, and offer to provide them for him, fully paid with supplies of batteries or something like that, for him to keep in the house until she gets the point... obviously he might not be keen to have one of those in his house or near his door... Thanks again everyone... she is just here looking at me and my jumper is covered in her white hair and I am soooooo happy!!!!! Hugs to everyone who offered good vibes and advice and replied to my post.

mostin
So glad she is back What a little tinker . Are you sure she snook into his house or was she coaxed? I'm only asking because my friends cats kept getting "lost" and getting "shut" in the old mans house down the road. But one day when she went to get them back she found them tucking into wiskers finest, and there were another 12 tins of it piled in the kitchen . The old cats had the good grace to look slightly guilty to be caught in the act by their real mummy , the old guy promised not to feed them any more but she knows he still does . Joojoo
I've only just caught up with this as haven't been online for a while. What fantastic news that Shaman has come back. I bet you are so relieved. One of mine went missing years ago for 4 days and nights and I was beside myself. I did exactly the same and put posters up and leaflets through doors. The morning after she came bouncing over the fence covered in spiders webs. She had been locked in a shed for a few days. Other than being dusty and very hungry she was fine. So pleased that you had a happy outcome. xx

Seagazer
I'm so sorry I hadn't seen this. I'm very glad to hear that Shaman is back safe and sound. My cat Dave went missing a little while ago for a couple of days and I was heartbroken only for the little tinker to turn up as if nothing had happened. I think he'd got locked in somewhere as well. The first thing we did was do a leaflet drop. I'd always do that again. Cats eh? Bless them
