alih
I have recently been thinking about a walk in run but struggling with the economics (and the prospect of trying to persuade my ever-patient OH having recently forked out for a cube). And I go out into my garden several times a day to see my chickens who are right by the neighbours' fence. Which is right next to their former aviary that is now disused. And the perfect size for my patch. And which, a few months ago, they said they were going to be getting rid of. And only today, as I walked past it for the millionth time did the penny drop! My neighbour came out into his garden as I was " clearing up round the run" (ie peering nosily into his aviary to see how it was anchored) and asked me if I would like it!!!! I of course said I would have to ask my OH. Will have to find the right time but it's been a great day for prepping him as the chickens have been flying over the netting into the garden all day and getting stuck in it too so I have made lots of comments about walk in runs and the netting not doing what it's supposed to etc. Oh happy day! And it would be free!!!
Janty
Congratulations. Hubby can't argue with free, can he?

alih
That's what I think...but it's the imposing structure that concerns him more....will keep you posted. Am just very amused that my middle-aged forgetfulness made me not realise for so long...the solution was right under my nose!
fluffyknickers
Thats great - love it when a plan comes together. You'll be giving them a lot of free eggs then and making them some cakes! Can't wait to see pictures. x
Guest
Awaiting 14/4/2009 took me 2 years to fork out on a much wanted and i couldnt justify the extra cost of the cube run(s) so i am building one! Its coming along really well considering I dont know what i am doing and am just making it up. I will tot up the price but a 30meter roll of galavanised 1/2"x1" weld mesh was £52 plus some posts and hey presto...(fortunately i have an old concrete greenhouse base) but am building it around that. So if ur neighbour has kindly donated the aviary am sure it will b put to good use and if it needs any refurb..much less £££ for the chicks so everyone is happy Also its good your neighbour must like birds as well lucky sounds like your oH will be kept busy in the sunshine good luck indie
Redwing
Thats brill will you even have to dismantle it?
quickcluck
Would that be a WIR of fate?
Ain't Nobody Here
Would that be a WIR of fate? Very good . I imagine it will be one of a kind . Congratulations, Alih, what a bit of brilliant luck .
alih
I love that - WIT of fate indeed! As for having to dismantle it, wouldn't it be great if we could pass it over the fence . Not sure though as it looks really heavy!
Seagazer
That really is serendipity - I hope your OH agrees
WitchHazel
You can't lose! If your DH agrees to you having the aviary, great - you get a walk in run for nothing. And if he doesn't because it's a bit imposing or whatever, that's great too - because he'll have to agree to buy one then, won't he?
Egluntyne
Congratulations alih. What a spot of luck.

Plum
Very jealous. Has he agreed?
alih
Well I mentioned it as casually as possible on Sunday and he has agreed to have a look at the run when our neighbours decide they do want rid. It will prob be a while as they first mentioned it ages ago and it's still there. But he is attracted by the fact that we could sell the cube run. (Though my plan to buy a spare eglu hasn't quite made it to the table yet ). Watch this space. But the chickens are driving me mad getting out of the netting - through/ under and over from the cube - so I have to sort something out soon ish. Ms Marple
Sounds fantastic. I look forward to the pictures. I have my cube(well nearly- just need to get over to |Bellekatz next at Easter). I keep mentioning the WIR, but our house is such a work in progress.... Sometimes I wonder why we moved. We used to be so close to school(for all of us), house was finished etc etc. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get it soon!
alih
Thanks guys....in fact it's getting beyond a joke now as I put some new grass seed down this afternoon and the naughties flew straight over to grab it, clearing the netting by miles! May need to hurry things along.
