Egluntyne
One of my Fenton Blues has gone broody. She is less than a year old too....precocious madam. I thought yesterday that she was making odd noises and her wings were protecting the eggs. She was booted off the nest unceremoniously and she seemed to perk up. This morning....flat as a pancake, pecky and snappy and making those odd throaty noises. Hmmm. Dog crate called for me thinks.
redfrock
Agatha went broody yesterday too . We got her last Spring at POL of and she was broody 3 times that summer. Thankfully being off this week I can boot her off and collect the eggs every 5 minutes. Strangely, out of all my hybrids, the same 4 always go broody without fail. I could raise dozens of chicks if I was inclined given that they are so predictable. Not sure I buy into the myth that hybrids rarely go broody
Hangman
We have a Cream Legbar which is broody at the moment, and is currently living in the study incubating a fertilised egg (not one of ours) - so she's quite happy. Here's a vid of her before she was moved inside:
Chickvic
She's certainly making herself comfortable!
Yolky
One of mine started last week. She was kept off the next and put in broody confinement (I have a fab area 1m x 1m in the run where we can keep a broody and it is nice an airy to cool her down) one day in there and see seemed to snap out of it for a week. Just been out and the little madam is back on the nest again. She is a but she goes broody all the time. Good job I have three chooks as we still get enough eggies from the other two to last us. mostin
The little madam . I haven't had the delight of this part of chook ownership yet, but with 7 chooks now and summer approaching I fear my days may be numbered .
Kirstine
Here too - one of our cuckoo marans is occupying the nestbox wearing that familiar 'comfy yet malevolent' expression and looking, as Egluntine says, flat. DH is working his way up to moving her into the other chicken house where she can stay broody or not, as she pleases, but won't get any eggs! Hotel Happy Chicken is full to capacity. Barkisland
Mary (Lt Sussex) has been broody again for a few days now, and is in the dog crate. I let her out to free range with the others, but she only stayed out for a short time before heading back indoors, so back in the crate she went. Janty
I have Delia broody at the moment with nowhere to put her as both spare eglus are occupied with visiting hens. My friend is on holiday in France for a week and she delivered her hens yesterday just as broodiness struck. We are getting a huge amount of eggs so a few coffee cakes and some scotch eggs will have to be made, I think.

Cooks
you could have used her to hatch some of your eggs LOL bless her heart! I thought Cocoa was protecting and sitting on the eggs this morning so turfed her off them and removed them, turned out to be Sugars and Dory's egg, Dory laid a double yolker 83g egg (I think that's what is weighed), so then Cocoa sat back down and laid her egg!.. *blush* sorry Cocoa! bad mummy!!! feemcg
I have my 1st broody of the year too, KT started a couple of days ago.....locked her in the lilac eglu run yesterday and all night, with no access to the eglu nest. Let her out this morning and she went straight to a nest so she's out in the unused pink eglu run just now. i always get broken eggs when one goes broody as they all fight to lay in the same nest, even when they've got a choice of

Kirstine
Barkisland Is that the top section of an IKEA shoe rack? In any case it looks like a great sin bin - not uncomfortable enough to be cruel, but also not too cumfy to encourage the little madam! Barkisland
BarkislandIs that the top section of an IKEA shoe rack? Yes it is I thought the wire cage would hurt her feet otherwise, and there is still ventilation so hopefully will cool her off. She has been out to free range for an hour, but keeps going back in to see if there's a nestbox open (there isn't). I feel sorry for her really. Valkyrie
Loved the video. Sounds like she's saying "I told you not to blow the bl**dy door off". What a whinge. Cheyenne makes a popping sound - cracks me up. But she makes a sound very similar when she's been out, has a stretch and gargles before doing the Miss Marple march back to the nestbox. bigmommasally
Alice my Splash Orp has been broody for the last couple of days. So I've been turfing her out into the run with the others but then they all seem to attack her and won't let her near the food so she ends up cowering in the corner. Even if they are out free ranging they seem to give her a good pecking when I turf her out. She's always been at the bottom of the pecking order but the others aren't usually so nasty to her. Are they just telling her off for being broody?
chelsea
my cochin Star has been broody for about 2 weeks now and nothing will snap her out of it. She is now what I call "semi-broody" (sort of pretending to be broody really ) she's eating, drinking, preening etc but every so often she runs back to the run like her pants are on fire thinking "heck, me eggs!!".... feemcg
Mine usually give the broody one a bit of a peck when she comes off the nest.......I think they're jealous that she might be going to have babies (even though she isn't ).
