bunee1
i was reading the thread about misheard lyrics and how children interperate things and it reminded me of when we were in the supermarket one day and Izzy pointed out a coconut on the shelf and my other half said ooo yeah shall we get one i love bears eggs ...can't wait till it hatches That one lasted for yrs in our house she belived it for a long long time it was such a funny one we had to string it out .... Mind you this trick runs in the family when i met jez he still thought scotch eggs were called hootsmonds ...thats what his dad had told him. Anyone else have anything similliar to add? Cate in NZ
My daughter believed for years that we had a Spring Roll tree We had a tree fern and it's leaves, when they died, went a very translucent, pale brown, a bit like the wrapping on a Chinese Spring Roll, and she commented on this similarity the first time she ever tried a Spring Roll. So hubby told her that he'd picked them off that tree and wasn't she clever to notice He then embarked on a regular tease of placing Spring Rolls in amongst the fronds on it.... and asking her to go and pick some to have with our Chinese take away She was very little at the time though, probably only 4 or 5. It's still referred to occasionally in the family.... even though we lost the tree fern a few years ago when a friends visiting dog dug it up

Guest
we told our weans that the ice-cream van was in fact a music van, and that they toured the streets playing nice jolly music for people. our first son called them moojic vans - which we still call them today though they have recently twigged that they sell ice-cream and stuff.... harveypup
i was reading the thread about misheard lyrics.... Sorry pressed "go" before I was ready My sister used to think that the Enya song went "Save the whale, save the whale, save the whale" not "sail away...." and I used to think that the Jimmy Somerville song (can't remember if it was Bronski Beat or Communards?!) went "meatball, meatball hit that perfect meatball......Hit that perfect, hit that perfect, hit that perfect meatball!!!" Guest
I took my neighbour's advice and said the ice cream van was a 'Daddy thing'. So now at least they only ask for an ice cream if DH is at home! It seems to work anyway!
