Glass Painting

Recommended Posts

I used to do lots when my girls were smaller & I loved it.

I would actually love to start again, but the paints & kit are pretty expensive, aren't they?

I used to look out for square sided bottles & jars, which are much easier to work on that the round ones, where the paint can run.

I used to sell at craft fiars locally & now often go into houses to see one of my 'pieces' on dislpay still :P

Thanks for your comments.

Cinnamon what sort of things did you paint on them? Did you do pictures or just patterns? I bought the paints I'm using at the moment from The Range, a set of 6 for about £5. They didn't have any outliner paste in stock though, so then I discovered this website http://www.artifolk.co.uk/index.htm Which has lots of stuff on it.

I had to order some more outliner from them today, as my tube of black ran out last night whilst I was in the middle of something  So whilst I was on there I bought another set of 6 paints, a different make from the ones I've got, but it included some different colours. Thought I'd see what they were like.

I'm really enjoying it, but find it very time consuming, having to wait for the outliner to dry before I can paint them. The hardest part is trying to think what to paint on the jars/tea light holders.

They're beautiful, you're very talented :)

I did a bit of "glass" painting at Christmas, using those stick on outlines you can buy on sheets of acetate and sticking them into cut out cards. They looked pretty good, but I couldn't have done the outlines myself!

They look good! I've done a bit of glass painting before and it's great fun, although my glass paints aren't of very good quality and are sat in a box somewhere...

I think you could do with a finer outliner in my opinion as the black one you have doesn't look like it's too good with fine detail-the pebeo stuff's good! :D

Thanks for all your lovely comments everyone.

Ubereglu this is the outliner stuff I've been using http://www.artifolk.co.uk/catalog/products/craft_paint/marabu_glass_outliner_paste_25ml.htm. It probably does look a bit thick, but it's probably me squeezing too hard. I haven't really been doing much detailed stuff, I think I prefer big and bold and just general patterns. It's a fab website if you're into your arty stuff, I could probably spend a fortune on it.

I did a couple more last night

It's my grampy's 80th birthday today, so I made this for him

I thought I'd fill it with some sweets.

Then as I had all my paints out I finished off this glass

I know I should really put something inside them to take the photos, but I like the way the light makes the colours glow

I've been at it again, here are my latest attempts on my blog http://welshpurpletree.wordpress.com/2009/10/02/the-latest-attempts/

I'd love to know what you all think, also I'd be interested in hearing how much you think I could get away with charging for them, considering they will be sold at our local Church Christmas & Craft Fayre.

It all looks really lovely set out all together. Perhaps on your stall - make some various height levels with boxes & cover with a table cloth, organza & sparkly confetti. Perhaps even get some cheap battery fairy lights from pound shop, as I bet you're not allowed to light tealights. Really lovely - well done!

See here for some display ideas http://www.consultantcreations.com/category-s/135.htm I used to be a candle lady! :shh:
