4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

It's 6:15 and I'm up to prepare for collection day. There's paper to shred and water and food to put out and the dust bath to fill full of sand.

 

Okay so plan is to collect in Carlow (approx 70 miles south of me)

 

1 Blue Laced Wyandotte

1 Black Maran

1 Faverolle

 

all about 10 - 13 weeks old.

 

[whisper] there is a Gold Laced Wyandotte down there, am I really going to leave her behind? I can fit 7 surely? [/whisper]

 

Then back here to drop them off and continue you on with 3 birds I'm collecting for a friend to Cavan (approx 70 miles north of me) to swap for

 

3 Mixed Heritage Girlies (very mixed, not hybrids, part minorcan, part commerical hen, part light sussex, part something else in varying degrees!) one of whom is 9 months old and sister to her cockerel, and 2 of his daughters who feature in my gallery as 'hens to be', so about 16 weeks old at this stage.

 

 

 

The breeder in Carlow had a hatch yesterday, and has lots of very cute bantams so hopefully I'll get pics of those.

Good luck I went a bit further to collect my chickens and just made a day of it...its great fun and I am sure you will come back with more than intended(I did)

 

They sound absolutely fab. The wyandottes are so pretty good luck

We've been home about an hour and have just put everyone to bed, queue much hilarity with OH throwing my jacket over startled chucks and posting them through the egg-ports. Some of the younger ones are still chattering away.

 

As predicted I now have 7 chickens.

 

1 Maran/Welsomer Cross

1 Faverolle

1 Gold Laced Wyandotte

1 Blue Laced Wyandotte

 

3 Extremely mixed girls one of whom is 9 months old and another who might be a boy!

 

I'm also over-nighting 1 Light Sussex and 1 Black Maran for a fellow Irish newbie from another forum!

 

I didn't take many photos, haven't even looked at them myself yet, all a bit jittery and over-excited.

it's just me and the bots here this morning I think. OH was 'breathing funny' (we don't say snoring in our house), that's why I'm up, not because there are chickens in the garden!

 

It's an absolutely miserable day here today, driving rain. But hopefully I'll get pics. Yesterday when I tried to take some the Light Sussex kept getting front of shot and she's not even mine!

 

Shan't be letting them out until 7:30 so it's off to do two days of dishes!

Finally!

 

It has been pouring rain all day and the girls are skittish with the amount of disruptions and visitors they've been having, and of cours there's been the pecking order establishment.

 

One of the teens Anne Bolyen is proving a real bully, especially with the Wyandottes.

 

No one else is named yet. I've been calling the Faverolle "Favee" but she has to get a proper name, she's an absolute dote.

Our 9 month old hen is sitting in the nest area of the nest box! she could just be trying to get away from everyone as she has a sore leg... but you never know!

They are gorgeous- esp the faverolle, ours is still referred to as 'Favee', we've changed her name So many times, just can't find one that is exactly her, at the moment we're trying 'Baby or Bubba' cos she is ! no doubt it will be something else in a day or two.
