The Dogmother
Anyone grown these before? I have acquired some plants and am assured that they are delicious. Lovely looking plants.. now just need to get my little raised beds planted up! http://www.unwins.co.uk/asparagus-pea-seeds-pid1111.html
Redwing
I am growing them for the first time so it will be interesting to see how they turn out, I did read that you need to pick them at an inch long or they get fiberous and chewy
Happy chickens!
I grew some last year. Maybe it was the weather, but got a definite thumbs down from everyone who tried them. Sorry. Tough, not very sweet, more like okra than pea, ok in a curry, but not on their own. Definitly pick small to stand any chance or eating!!!! Hopefully we'll get some more sun this year and yours' will be fab!

I shall report back. Phil's Dad is giving me loads of other stuff from his greenhouse, so I will be well catered for again this year. Lesley
We weren't overly impressed when we grew them - perhaps we let them grow too long.
Cinnamon
I don't have those, but I do have patio peas this year, growing in a big pot up a willow teepee I think they will look lovely, as will your Clare, even if they aren't to your taste. This year I am very into making every patio pot useful, & I think that gorgeous veggies can be just as pretty as flowers, don't you?
Lesley
I agree - I love pea and bean flowers.
The Dogmother
I grow all my veggies on the patio, where they are safe from the feathered hellions. I love growing beans and peas, but thought I'd give these a whirl. I want to get soem rocket started too - will fibd time this weekend, if the weather is god to get it all planted up. Valkyrie
Yes do pick when around an inch or so long. If you let them get too big the seeds inside are really hard - ouchee. Wasn't fussed until I fried them in a bit of butter - crunchy and very tasty - bit like chinese seaweed (or deep fried cabbage) - bubble and squeaky. But mainly I just love them for the flowers. The Dogmother
I'v eheard mixed reports since buying mine, so I'm waiting to see what I think of them myself. I must say that the flowers are pretty though
Sam Palmer
We used to grow them when we had an allotment years ago. They were tasty steamed too, but you had to pick them small and keep on top of them by picking the peas every day. But it did mean you'd get fed up of them, or you'd have to start giving them away!
