Asparagus Peas

Recommended Posts

I grew some last year. Maybe it was the weather, but got a definite thumbs down from everyone who tried them. Sorry. :( Tough, not very sweet, more like okra than pea, ok in a curry, but not on their own. Definitly pick small to stand any chance or eating!!!!

Hopefully we'll get some more sun this year and yours' will be fab!

I am growing them for the first time so it will be interesting to see how they turn out, I did read that you need to pick them at an inch long or they get fiberous and chewy

I understand that you mustn't let them get more than 2cm long. I shall report back.

Phil's Dad is giving me loads of other stuff from his greenhouse, so I will be well catered for again this year.

I don't have those, but I do have patio peas this year, growing in a big pot up a willow teepee :P

I think they will look lovely, as will your Clare, even if they aren't to your taste.

This year I am very into making every patio pot useful, & I think that gorgeous veggies can be just as pretty as flowers, don't you?

Yes do pick when around an inch or so long. If you let them get too big the seeds inside are really hard - ouchee. Wasn't fussed until I fried them in a bit of butter - crunchy and very tasty - bit like chinese seaweed (or deep fried cabbage) - bubble and squeaky.

But mainly I just love them for the flowers.
