helen5848
Any ideas? I currently have two hen houses, one for my bantams and one for my hybrids - i've not been brave enough to put the two together yet! The bantams run gets less sun that the others, and at the moment with all this rain, the run is getting quite slutchy. Moving the run at the moment isn't really an option - the runs are so big that they take up most of the garden already! The entire back garden in paved and so the run is situated on paving slabs - it is cleaned out every night but by mid morning is a slutchy mess again! Has anybody got any ideas as to what I can do / put down in the run (on top of the slabs to help keep it dry? I've seen a few threads about rubber chips - would these be suitable given the circumstances? I have tried covering the run in plastic sheeting when rain is forrecast but still large amounts of water seem to be getting in! Any advice would be appreciated
The Dogmother
It's really best to provide them with a covered run, not only as shelter from the elements, but also because wet litter breeds disease and bacteria. Either a clear tarp or more rigid covering is fine.
Margaret
Hi, I have a lovely rubber bouncy recycled tyre.. omlet run, and even with the terrible weather and only the sun canopy on for shelter, the run is dry, poo and rain just go through! Magic!! Hope this helps. Margaret.
Ain't Nobody Here
You could put down Stalosan F which helps to dry things out and keeps nasties at bay, then add a thick layer of aubiose or easibed. A clear tarpaulin with bungee ropes is a good way to keep things dry (if you get a "glass clear" tarpaulin the light still gets through and you can still see your chickens!)
