50s dressup help needed pleeease!

Recommended Posts

I'mprobably leaving this a little late, but I'm going to a murder mystery night on Friday, and have just realised that it is fancy dress - 50s style or St Trinians  Well St Trinians is out completely for me (think Jo Brand doing Britney Spears :? ), but I might be able to get away with something 50s ish. Anyone any idea what 50s clothes look like? :?

We had a 1950's day at school this year to celebrate the school anniversary  The SEN department wore circular skirts in turquoise with white spots, and either little heels or white socks and pumps. There were also some wonderful dresses that a couple of the teaching staff wore.

It came from a website that delivered very quickly or I can send you mine if you like?

think Doris day :D

have you got an Alice band for your hair?

tight sweater with a pointy bra?

tweed skirt, wide belt, tights and a handbag are a must!

a polar neck with a scarf tied to the side?

if you get the right hairstyle and accesories then you should be able to adapt something you already have.

Aaaaahhhhh, 50s style looks so gorgeous, but not on a 5'1" apple dumpling shape :( I don't possess anything remotely tailored and skinny jeans/leggings and me parted company a very long time ago. Oh well, will be fun anyway.

Snowy, you have a great shape for 50's clothing 8)

Look for a full skirt, maybe a petticoat, a close fitting scoop neck T shirt, a wide belt between the 2.

Ballet shoes are great & a neck scarf will compete the look.

You have a curvy shape, & the skirt jies a multitude of sins, while the tight T will make the most of your assets :P

You will look great, & YES, WE DO WANT TO SEE PHOTOS!!!

Cut a large circle of material, hole in the middle for you to get into - bit of a zip / button & cut out some black felt circles & coloured circles for records! White bobby socks, kitten heels, v neck fitted t shirt & little cardi or fitted shrug & neck scarf tied on the side. False clip in ponytail / alice band. For a Grease party I went as Frenchie. Cropped fitted dark jeans, fuschia pink shirt tied in a knot at the front, neck scarf & flicky bob pink wig! Oh & black sunglasses!

OK, panic mode is setting in. So far I have some cut off jeans that I am just about to transform into pedal pushers (they are currantly a boot flare style), a fitted white shirt, pale pink mid heel court shoes, neck scarf (currantly the only one I could find was a blue flowery one - should I try to find a pink one to match the shoes, or would black be better?)

Aaahh, just going ot do school run ....

Right!!

Now have black jeans transformed into pedal pushers, white shirt, made a scarf out of some tan silk with white spots - I've even dug out my brother old black suede bomber jacket with american logo on the back (not sure if It's meant to be american style 50s but hey ho!) - just off to the chemist for hairdye and pink hairspray! :?:?:?
