Ain't Nobody Here
I started by cutting them to size with 3" extra all round to make a "hem". I then taped up the hems with tarp tape. I needn't have bothered as a few months down the line, the tarp tape has all come unstuck . So the latest ones I made I didn't leave a hem but I did reinforce the corners where I put the extra eyelets in. It's only where the eyelet is that any tearing is likely so I think they'll be OK (they've only been in since before Christmas though!) I used bungees with these latest ones. Hopefully you can see from the photo how it worked. This is the type of bungee I used.
emchook
Thanks for the close up. I have seen these holdon clips that look quite useful http://store.uktarps.co.uk/index.php?controller=category&path=29 Did the tarp fray at all when you cut it ? Ain't Nobody Here
I'd be interested to see if those work. The tarps don't fray at all - they are very thick plastic and cut really easily.
fantasticjudyann
Hi y'all Have just purchased some hooks as per Andrew and ANH so will try these first but I also like the look of the Holdon hooks as well but they seem rather expensive. BTW I think I might have made a mistake with the tarp at the end of the run It's going to be 2.5 metres wide and the only tarp I could get was a 2.4 metre one so it's going to have a small gap down one side Is the rain going to get in do you think perhaps I should have done what you did ANH and cut a bigger one to size Anyway I'm glad you found a tarp site emchook Judy
Lewis
We use a version of those hold on clips in the theatre for tieing cloths onto bars, so they have the be quite strong. They're really good, and hold really well - just a bit of a pain to get off
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm sure it'll be fine, Judy . They'll need a little ventilation after all .
fantasticjudyann
Just seen your post ANH It seems like my order has already shipped so I'm stuck withe the narrower tarp if it does let water in (what happens to the Hemcore if it does ? ) I guess I'll just have to order another wider one C'est la vie - these xxxxx! chickens are an expensive hobby aren't they? emchook
I am thinking of getting the smallest ones I can .. they will have more hem to them I think I am going to have to cut a lot of gaps as my WIR has doors and flaps all over the place ! Have I mentioned lately .... 3 days to go before WIR day !!!!

atsw
BTW I think I might have made a mistake with the tarp at the end of the run It's going to be 2.5 metres wide and the only tarp I could get was a 2.4 metre one so it's going to have a small gap down one side Is the rain going to get in do you think ? A small gap wont matter. The 2.4m will actually be around 2.1m as the hemming process tends to reduce the size by around 30cm. I have a small gap on the left hand edge of my 4.5m length, but it's fine. Andrew

Lewis
Was sorting the chucks out earlier and looked at the concrete and there is a hole in the middle and you can see mud under it I don't think it was thick enough and the snow/ice must have done something to crack it ... just another delay trying to fix that Its taking aaaaaaaaages. Done by Christmas I guess?
Cooks
Lewis you can buy this stuff that repairs concrete, kind of self levels too I believe only thing is I cannot remember what its called...
Poached Egg
Poor you Lewis! BTW which Christmas? On the plus side (for us) WIR due 8 or 9 March Need to order some clear tarps - will have to see what everyone else has left for us in the shops but very interested to see if emchook has any early opinions on the holdons. Our girls may have to put up with an opaque tarp on the prevailing side for a while. Emchook/Judy - anything interesting happening this week? Lewis
I've had a look at the self levelling stuff, mainly used for fence posts? You can just put it down and add water Will have a look .... I knew there was a reason I wanted to use slabs
Cooks
it might not be suitable for the job lewis but worth looking in to.
emchook
Can you not just pour some more concrete on top ? Maybe wait for some warm weather I know when the guys were doing my slab they said they could just extend the size at a later date ..... but freezing weather will do horrible things to setting concrete.
