jennifer+simon
I have seen pecking blocks at the farm shop for the hens, they are like 8 quid. i dont mind paying it but ive seen some corn on the cob (i think its dried) at a pet shop, it was in the guinea pig section but ive heard that hens like sweet corn and was basicly wondering if it would be ok to get them for my chooks... they are only 99p for two whick works out a lot cheaper! also is there anything else i could get to hang in the run for them to peck at whilst im at work? any advice would be a big help thank you! stoice
I've tried both! The pecka block was ignored for months so i gave it to the wild birds. Some people's hens have eaten them though. Particularly when they get wet and a bit softer. I saw some large corn cobs (dried) in the pet store and bought some for my girls who also ignored them so i put the cob in the microwave to pop the corn. A few pecks but still not fussed. My girls prefer the fresh corn cobs. Fussy bunch.

stoice
Maybe buy the mini corn cobs? I found my girls tried the normal kernals but they were too big and hard.
Redwing
There are a couple of recent threads with a recipe or pecka blocks - a lot cheaper than buying them! try a search Mine wouldnt eat the dried corn on the cob - little so and so's
Lydia
Mine love peckablocks and normally demolish 2 per month. They do like them wet but also attack them dry, particularly from the other side of the bars when they are freeranging Often places like Ascott or flytesofancy do them in boxes of 12 on special offer which works out a bit cheaper, say £6 a block so it's definitely worth shopping around. Mine also love corn on the cob and demolish those in seconds so it's swings and roundabouts as far as cost goes for me.
Space Chick
There are a couple of recent threads with a recipe or pecka blocks - a lot cheaper than buying them! try a search I made some pecka blocks for my girls using the recipe on the forum, and the girls LOVE them! So much so, that Sarah-Jane turns into Evil Chook and tries her hardest to stop the other 2 from getting a look in. So I have now resorted to giving them supervised Pecka Block time, or keeping SJ away whilst the other 2 have some time It was really easy to make though, and actually smelt quite nice whilst cooking. OH walked into the kitchen and said in a rather excited voice "oh thats smells nice, whats cooking?" To which I replied "Pecka blocks for the girls", he shrugged, rolled his eyes and walked out disappointed
Ain't Nobody Here
Mine love fresh corn on the cob so I bought a pack of 10 dried ones from Pets At Home. There are 2 in the run and they haven't touched either one (in over a week ). Waste of money . (Although Oscar rather likes them - he demolished one in a few days .)
