Go Ape

Recommended Posts

Went here on Tuesday for a day out:

www.goape.co.uk

Me, my husband, my son (aged 13) and my daughter (aged 10), all took part.

We did thenew course in the Wyr Forest, near Kidderminster.

NOT for the faint hearted!:shock::shock:

My son does a climbing course at the local leisure centre, so he knew how to use all the equipment, and he is quite an experienced climber now. He loved every minute. My daughter had just got back from PGL, but had discovered she was afraid of heights. She coped so well considering, and was determined to get round. We all finished the course, but it was hair raising to say the least, and stomach churning watching our kids dangling from such a ridiculous height. Play the video on the link... it still doesn't illustrate the full horror of what lies in store, though.:shock: Adrenaline junkies will love it! :D

It looks great :D:D I might go with DS in the summer hols. It's something I've always fancied doing. Though the zip line in South Wales looks very very long and very very high!!

Well done to your daughter for overcoming her fear of heights :clap:

Where does your DS go climbing Steph? Is it Sport Martley by any chance? That is where my DS goes.

I was trying to persuade OH to take DS to the GoApe course as I know I would be terrified :anxious: . OH wasn't keen either as he is afraid of heights (though won't admit it, just said it didn't interest him  ) . Shame, it looks like it would be great fun for DS to do.

My son does his climbing course at the Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge. The instructors there are really nice, and I believe they organise special climbing days out in Wales and Scotland too.

If your DS likes climbing, he would LOVE it at Go Ape! My DS just coudln't stop talking about it, saying it was the best day out he'd ever had. My OH is also afraid of heights and won't admit it, but he did really well. My DD really did struggle, froze a couple of times, and even cried with fear, which was difficult to watch, but refused to drop out, and we gave her lots of encouragement to carry on. I must admit also felt a bit dizzy to begin with, I was more scared than I thought i would be. Once you realise how good the equipment is, and how well strapped in you are, you start to enjoy it. The zip wires are fantastic. A lady who I work with also recommended this place; I was thinking of giving it a try.

Another tip: when I booked Go Ape online, I managed to get a voucher code and got 20% off the booking fee! Well worth doing as it's not cheap!

We did this as a family last year and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I was pretty scared and pleased that I only had one child to be responsible for. The only problem was that she (and DS) both chose the "black" option when mum would have rather stuck to the slightly less scary one! At one point I was stuck on these stirrups and though that I would be there forever - much to the amusement of people on the ground passing by! How  was I???

Recently saw the one on Cannock Chase and chatted to one of the ladies who had just landed (literally) off a zip wire thingy. She said it was brilliant, and she was scared of most of it but now she had completed the course she felt absolutely elated.

I'm not keen on heights but I must admit I would love to have a go.
