Tiggy
I've been away for 2 wks and my girls have cleverly conned my lovely neighbour into feeding them twice as much as normal, naughty girls so the sack of mash that normally lasts a month has gone, so because I needed more supplies quickly I went to our local farm shop. the price of feed has doubled I had to get a bag, a small one costed £2 before I went away now costs £4.20, what on earth is going on? I have ordered a large bag on line from Omlet which still seems to cost the same (no price increase) Edited June 11, 2009 by Guest

ubereglu
Go to your local agricultural supplies-eg Countrywide stores or Mole Valley, they're quite good and reasonably cheap, a 25kg bag costs about £6.20 or so.

Gallina
You do need to shop around. I was paying over £12 for a 20kg sack of pellets, but it's under £7 in the place I go now. Is it a long time since you bought any feed? It rose astronomically last year, but the price seems to have stabilized now.
mrsallen08
Darn! We were on the cheapest last year at £9.99 per 20kg sack from kennelgate. Seems it may be time to shop around! They are Dobson and Horrel thoug so a good make. hmmm...
fluffyfeet
Hi Tiggy Where was that from? Was it Greenforge at Mile Flat? That's where i've been getting mine and they are dearer than TFM but the girls definitely prefer the Dodson and Horrell to Small holder. I noticed the bales of shavings had also jumped in price last time I went. If it wasn't Greenforge I'll give them a call and find out what they're charging. The Dogmother
Some places whacked the price up a couple of months back, to take into account rising fuel and grain costs.
TOMWARDFARM
It ovbiously has nothing to do with the fact that demand has gone a lot higher in the last 18months
sjp
its Dodson and Horrell that I use £7.40 from place at Barr Beacon about 2-3 mile from Junc 7 M6
Tiggy
thanks everyone, I haven't bought feed from the farm shop for ages so that price increase for a tiny bag was a shock, I've been getting big bags from wiggly wigglers but their deliveries can take a long time. I'm off to Ludlow at the weekend so will call in at country wide
sheik
We pay around £10 for organic feed from Thorne's. I think it is made by "Marriages". A bit pricier than others we've tried, but the only one our girls seem to actually enjoy, rather than just grudgingly eating it because they're hungry! I should add, one sack lasts us ages, so it doesn't actually work out as much extra per week. /\dam
Guest
Hi today I paid £6.92 for Natural Gold layers pellets 20kg sack from Sales of Sandon(Herts) Agricultural Feed Merchant/Horsey place. fluffyfeet
Hi I've been to Greensforge near Kingswinford and their 20 kg bags of Dodson & Horrell Layers pellets are £7.40/20kg sack. Got some other prices whilst I was there too. Betta Bed shavings (large bale) £7.80. Easibed & Hemcore about 10-20p cheaper - same size bale 1 litre of HIlton Herbs ACV - £2.95. If anybody who is coming to the meet on 5th July needs anything, please let me know as I can bring some with me. Dawn x
Saronne
Eeek! I've been paying £12.59 for a sack of organic layers pellets from Saps in Oakham. Anyone out there know of somewhere in Leicestershire (or Rutland) that sells organic more cheaply? Saronne
fluffyknickers
I have been paying £11.59 for Organic Pellets from Marriages in Chelmsford. However the next bag will be non-organic as pulling in the purse strings! Michelle
mrsallen08
whoops! I got my numbers mixed up! We pay £8.00 from kennelgate for a 20kg of Dobson & Horrel! Thats not a bad price after all! - And I always get them to carry them to my car! hehe
saracook31
Pet shops, especially the national stores always seem to charge to much for chook food. Try your local breeders, ours buys food in bulk as he has many to feed & sells 20kg pellets for just over £5, as least £3 cheaper then anywhere else i seen!
