anyone tried plastic 'wood' chips?

Recommended Posts

We currently use wood chips in the run, however, it composts really slowly and our compost bins are reaching breaking point! (Plus I have had no good compost this year as its not ready :( )

I want to keepthe costs down, so was looking at the plastic chips from 'sitr'. The only feedback I have had from someone actually using it was a negative comment in PP.

Anyone tried it?

I wrote plastic, but you are right, it should have read rubber.

I saw the neg article, but the website seems to suggest that you can just jet wash it clean. I imagine that this is more complicated than thet and would involve sieving it, then washing it, then drying it and replacing it........sounds like hard work!

I think that you have all back-up my waryness about this and dont think I'll be purchasing any!

Thanks for the feedback

Hi, I have the recycled rubber tyres in a WIR 12x6x6 feet for a month now, and find them really easy, they are on an old flower bed so soil underneath, I just rake around in the evening if they have trashed it, which they normally do, and if lots of poo just use the hose and it dissapears like magic!!!

I can second that. I use them to. They are in full sun to, and there are no smells here. My chickens love them. Not all my flocks are on them yet when I let them all out they peck around for a while then they all lay down on them to sun bath.
