Chickvic
Cheese and salad cream with tomato and cucumber sometimes - goes a bit sloppy then What's your favourite meal?
Space Chick
I've had a lovely Indian takeaway tonight which I love Spicy or mild curries?
redhotchick
Favourite meal. Traditional Christmas dinner Favourite sandwich Good quality ham (dry cured / wiltshire), mature cheddar cheese, Lettuce, spring onions, cucumber and tomatoes, black pepper. On Granary bread, no butter, mayonnaise. For some reason I christened this a "jungle sandwich" Spicy thai curry Do you know how to keep the chick of a wild bird alive? I've lost count of the number of times I've found a chick in my garden and no matter what I've tried they have always died.
Valkyrie
Keep them warm and dark first of all because they will probably suffer from shock. Ideally an upside down feather duster over the top of them makes them feel secure. Make sure they don't dehydrate by giving them chick crumb in water, add less water as they grow, but make sure water is available. Depending on their size you can feed them with a little paintbrush by scooping the crumb onto the end. I always used the handle of a small teaspoon - anything beak shaped that the birds can take the food from. For newly found small birds you can add a drop of Bach's remedy to their water. If they haven't got feathers they will need an ice cream tub with paper at the bottom and a flannel placed over the top. It needs to be stable because they poop over the rim and can upset it. Feeding takes place every half hour for hatchlings and can be gradually lengthened as they get bigger and their tummies can take more. Keep a watch on their crops because they can get too much as they don't know when to stop. Just like me really! If they are feathered it is likely they are just suffering from shock, so give them a cuddle close to your body for a while. I do that and when they seem to settle a bit, I put them on a branch well up off the ground - sometimes they flutter away before I get the chance to put them down. This is a first aid posting from the Wildlife Rescue Centre where I used to help out: http://www.hartwildlife.org.uk/firstaid.html Anyone else a sucker for wildlife and rescue any hedgehogs etc? bigmommasally
Wow amazing knowledge you have Koojie. I'm afraid, rightly or wrongly, I leave baby birds alone as I assume that their mum is around somewhere. I've never encountered any other struggling wildlife so never had to think about intervening. If I do find anything in the future though Nurse Koojie will be my first port of call for advice. Does anyone else have hidden talents? Valkyrie
Aww shucks, it's just a little bit of this and that I pick up over the years! I think you know all my hidden ones now! I make lavender wands and thingy's. Oh and I can eat banana's on a fishing boat with huge sea swells and not throw up, although it has an adverse affect on other people in the boat. They see me and hurl up over the side! I used to do morris dancing a long time ago but I have always wanted to learn to jive (hand jiving just isn't the same thing) - can you dance or what is your favourite?
kitbag
I do tap dancing!! I love it so much although I have to stop to concentrate more on my music. (Iplay bassoon and piano) Do you play an instrument, or if you don't what would you like to learn to play?
Valkyrie
I used to play clarinet, but I have always wanted to play the piano - Grieg's concerto in A is so much better than chopsticks . Can't read music - just play by ear. Do you find it easy to perform in public?
Chucky Mama
No, I get very nervous. I have played saxophone at a few wedding receptions in a quartet. The focus of course is of course on the wedding party but I didn't want their wedding video to end up on 'You've been framed' because of the dodgy music in the background Do you think that the Queen should stand down and let Charles be King?
Valkyrie
I think he should abdicate - I really loathe that second wife of his. Second thoughts I think the reign should stop with the Queen. "Ooops, word censored!"ody seems to act with enough decorum and seem to enjoy making fools of themselves and ultimately us. As for Charles with his ranting about us peasants (not quite his term used, but it was obvious as to how he thinks of us) . . . Never, never, never. I'm not a Royalist - rather a Republican, but I can't see anyone that would fit the bill - a bit of power and it all goes to their heads! Republican or Royalist?
Looney
I'm more of a royalist than a republican. I know the Royal family has faults and skeletons in the closet but I would rather have them than some power-hungry President..... Can you touch type?
Valkyrie
Yes, reasonably fast but nowhere near my mum (who sounds like a machine gun when she types - gets off a few rounds before I've done my first sentence)! I can't do shorthand though, how about you?
Chucky Mama
I can't do shorthand although I have always quite fancied the thought of it. Perhaps I should start learning. I can barely write these days as type everything. I am rather ashamed at the state of my previously good handwriting. I can speak french poorly (O level French many moons ago) and am pretty fluent in 'teenage'. Can you speak a foreign language (hope this hasn't been asked before)
Valkyrie
Just a little French - not fluent, just what I picked up from schooldays. Actually I remember more than I did then. I can understand when it is spoken slowly or rather enough to know the gist of it. My friend comes from Mauritius and their native tongue is a sort of French. One day when visiting her mum was gabbling off in French and I laughed - she said "you know what I said didn't you". As I said, just enough! So saying that, the French in mum's schooldays was so different to the words used in mine (and she wanted to be a French teacher). My two did German at school - no chance of helping at all there! Although I do find it a little easier as so much sounds like English anyway. We had two lovely German girls stay as part of an exchange with DD. Have you ever done anything like that with students?
bigmommasally
I went on a french exchange holiday when I was 12 Goodness knows why my school let me go, I could hardly speak a word of the language and neither could the girl I stayed with. I was out there for 3 weeks and hated most of it, except for the puppies that their dog had when I was there! Shame we never stayed in touch - would quite like a cheap south of France holiday now Where are you off on holiday this year?
Valkyrie
Chez moi! Nope, not going anywhere. Need to get the house sorted, but I expect it won't be done this year either. We were supposed to get a plasterer in but haven't - we were supposed to have the stairs done after Easter, but haven't. Pooh. Do you ever make plans that never seem to work to schedule? Space Chick
Oh yes!! The fact that my WIR took so long is proof of that What have you got growing in your garden?

Looney
I once came out in a spectacular rash after eating loads and loads of strawberries! Not a real allergy but certainly an allergic reaction. Do you know your neighbours?
Space Chick
I know their names, and speak to them when I see them, but I wouldn't say I know know them I do like them though Have you ever had a really awful neighbour?
bigmommasally
Our neighbours in our first house were awful. They owned their own cleaning company but had the filthest house ever! They had 4 children and let them run riot, I once found their 18month old in the next street, took her back home and they weren't even bothered, 5 minutes later she was wandering off again Our house we live in now is only our second, we lived here for 22 years now. Lots of our friends seem to move house fairly regularly, not sure how they afford the moving fees each time. How long have you lived in your house? Valkyrie
Almost 17and a half years. We moved in 5 days before DD was due to be born! Talk about cutting it fine! The neigbours all chipped in to clean up for me in case it happened on that day! As things go, she was a stubborn little madam - still is - and decided to arrive the day I went in to hosp to be induced the following day some 22 days later. Both my two were late. And we still haven't completely decorated it. Do you have children and were they on time?
clootie
DS is 15 and was 10 days late so induced birth. DD is 13 and was 7 days early !! What's the worst pain you've ever had to indure? Broken hearts don't count
