School Chicks - Hatched!

Recommended Posts

Its day 10 and I've swapped the chicks over from the non-slip mat to wood shavings and they're wondering whats going on!

One of the Brilley chicks is tiny in comparison with the others but the Brilley's seem to be growing slower. The CCL's have grown loads already and have little wings :D

I hope the little one is alright, we had a little quail that survived a few weeks and then died. I've made sure its eating and everything, but its just sitting asleep under the heat lamp and tries to sit under the others

I've just lost another of the Brilley chicks :?

They have food and water, heat, seem fine to me.

I don't really know what's caused it and am wondering if its something to do with the chicks as it seems strange to have lost 2 of the same breed in 2 days.

I have some chicken tonic do you think its alright to give to chicks?

I'm so sorry Lewis :( yes Battles is fine for chicks, use it more diluted than for grown ups

They all look lovely, I hope thats the end of your bad luck

Thanks, I've given them some.

The smallest chick is sitting huddled up under the heatlamp and the other is a bit more active, but saying that the other 2 looked fine to me.

I hope it is the end if it. I don't know wether to separate them now. I was going to and have another brooder, but if I separated them and they were all fine, I'd have to introduce them slowly :?

I've lost another one today, the smallest Brilley chick with black wings - it was always a bit runty so I don't know what caused it.

I don't know if its coincidence, a bad breeding or my fault :? , strange that 3 of the one breed are fine but the other 4 are ok :(

Thanks Clare, I'll have a look if I can buy some first :) shall I use it with ACV/poultry tonic, or on its own?

Are you using medicated chick crumb?

It's worth switching to it if you aren't and I'd recommend using ACV in their water too. I found these both helped when I had a similar problem with a hatch. Good luck :)

I couldn't find any medicated today, I went to 2 places :(.

I am using ACV and they had some poultry shield aswell. Thanks :)

The chicks all look fine for now :D

They can jump up and sit on the side of the brooder  so I've covered it and might move them to something different in the next few days.

I have some pictures but can't post them because my laptop has died :(

Finally got a few more photos of the chicks, they're nearly 4 week old, but these photos are from the last couple of weeks :)

I don't know the sex of the last Brilley White chick, I'm hoping its a girl is it has a tiny comb, but it is only 4 week old.

Week 5 update:The chicks are all doing fine, the CCL's are getting their little crests, all have combs and Fry is getting little wattles coming through.

The Brilley White/Silver (still un-named!) doesn't have a comb as yet and I still don't know if its a boy/girl, I'm hoping its a girl. My mom said my auntie can have 2 of the CCL girls, so I have Purkinje + the Brilley, but if the Brilley is a boy, I'll keep the 3 CCL's and they'll have to buy some others :D

It looks like a girl and has no comb, but can sometimes stand like a boy, so I'm not sure yet .
