meezers
Well I assume it's a sting, I've seen a couple of bees buzzing around the run. She was fine when she got up this morning, when I got home from work about 10.30am she was stood in the run 'not looking right'. On closer inspection one of her wattles and her neck/throat around it is swollen. She looks bright enough but is not eating or drinking- I imagine it's very sore, poor thing. I've syringed water into her several times and I've also given her yoghurt, olive oil and very sloppy pellet porridge ( anything that I can suck up the syringe ! ) I'm hoping that the swelling will have gone down some by morning, I know when one of my cats had a bee sting years ago, their paw swelled up alarmingly, but was back to normal a few hours later. Has anyone had a chook stung by a wasp/bee? and if so how long did it take for the swelling to go down ? I'll ring the vet tomorrow if it's no better, but not sure what they could do. Ain't Nobody Here
I've never heard of that before . I'm sure you're doing the right thing. If she looks no better I'd call the vet just to check.

Tweety
Hi, One of my girls was stung/bitten under her beak, and it swelled up quite badly. I took her to the vet, and initially she was given antibiotics. The swelling then seemed to go down and I thought she was ok, but the sting/bite had become infected and my girl had to stay at the vets for 2 days whilst he drained it and packed it with more antibiotics. Thankfully, that sorted it out and she is fine now. I don't mean to worry you with this tale, but after my experience I would advise keeping an eye on Margo and, if she doesn't improve by Monday, I would take her to the vet. Hope she is better very soon.
meezers
We are just back from the vets, the swelling is no better and I'm still syringing sloppy porridge and water into her. The vet agreed it's a reaction to some kind of sting and was amazed at how much it had swollen. He gave her cortisone for the swelling and antibiotics incase of infection, so hopefully she'll be feeling better soon. He's given me a 4 week withdrawal period for the eggs - typical , as Margo is one of my best layers! luckily I can usually identify her eggs, otherwise I'd be doing' eeny meeny miny mo' with 3 other eggs that look the same
meezers
I've just been out to give Margo more water and found her dead in the run. I thought the swelling had gone down a little this morning, but maybe that was just wishful thinking. She was wheezing though, so maybe her respiratory tract was swollen as well. R.I.P Margo.
