An Early Arrival!

Recommended Posts

I've just had the shock of my life. Popped into my garage to turn the eggs and for some reason decided to take the lid off or a peek. Staring back at me was the Ancona chick through the hole it's made in it's shell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:shock::shock: They're not due until Saturday! Because I've been running the incy dry the membranes were as dry as a bone so I quickly ran in to get some water for the trays so now it's got some in and the humidity will raise.

 Please Lord let this one be ok

No further progress. It's still sat there quite happily. I can see into the egg and the blood vessels haven't closed off yet so I expect it'll wait a day or so before making it's grand entrance into the world.

No sign of it's chums yet thankfully! It should be joined by a Barnevelder, a Silkie, 2 Houdans, 5 Speckled Sussex and 3 or 4 Salmon Faverolles

That's good news then. Sounds like you caught it just time time - well done!!

I hadn't even stopped turning them yet! I was going to do it one last time tonight, candle to remove anything dead and set the incy up for them to hatch in. So when I put the water in this morning I covered the gap, removed the dividers and put the mat down. This lot have been so neglected, they're the first to not be incubated in the house, I've only candled them twice, and actually the time has passed a lot quicker because I'm not fretting about them every day  I was thinking of bringing the incy in for hatching but if I leave it where it is the chicks will probably do better without interferance  I normally put it next to the computer upstairs so the added exercise of having to traipse outside will be beneficial

I think we've got 1 Houdan, 1 Silkie, 1 Barnevelder, 5 Speckled Sussex and 3 Faverolles plus the Ancona. A couple had internally pipped so we might have a few more deciding to come early tomorrow. I kissed Ancona goodnight and said I'd see it in the morning

Yep I have something to report

Baby Ancona arrived shortly after 9am this morning and is doing very well  Yolk all absorbed and is fluffing up nicely in the incy, cheering on it's mates. A Speckled Sussex is rocking all over the place, it's one that I noticed last night had pipped internally so I think that'll be the next one out. I don't mind if they want to wait until Saturday though

I know, I'm so surprised. I guess they cooked quicker in this hot weather. They both got themselves out unassisted, both had absorbed their yolks and their navels are closed so they're seemingly fine in every way. I'm wondering what sight will greet me in the morning!
