deejmum
I recently bought 3 heretige skyline hens an was told that they had a 80 percent chance of laying blue eggs. I dont mind or anything but they all are laying green eggs! Is is too much green grass???? I am a tad confused as it seems to defy the odds. Can anyone enlighten me? Would I have to get pure breed aracunas to ensure blue eggs The green ones are great but I am a bit surpised

Griffin
Mine laid cream ones too I think Aracaunas can lay green too? I'm hoping at least one of my two Aracauna chicks is a girl so I can at last have a blue egg

sjp
gren eggs are a result of a brown egg layer been crossed with a blue egg layer i.e blue over brown
deejmum
Aaah, wonder why they are sold as blue egg layers then?
sjp
the skylines and columbines hybrids are still been 'developed' and I suppose it depends on with breeding group they come from as to weather you get a blue green or other coluor egg that said I'd recomend the columbine to any body going on mine she may only lay small eggs but they're top quality and within 5 grams ether side of 50 grams every time
Redwing
They should be sold as 80% chance of blue or green eggs as ANH says and never 80% chance of blue only Yours probably came from the same supplier therefore the same strain (not necessarily parents) so lay the same colour as each other Araucanas can lay green eggs too, I have 11 Araucana eggs in my inccy and they are all different shades from baby blue to pale green (some might argue that they arent pure if they lay green eggs though) I believe that the Cream Legbars always lay blue eggs though but there are impure strains of these as blue eggs have become so coveted that people are trying to make a quick buck and trying to pass allsorts off as cream legbars so you would want to be sure they are purebred
TAJ
After lots of research this is why I went with a Cream Legbar - she has just started laying lovely blue eggs - 5 in her first week. The issue is these hybrids have the potential to lay more eggs than the pure breeds, but it doesn't seem the pros & cons are so clear with the coloured egg layers than 'normal' colour egg hybrids. I think when I looked at the stats it was only about 50 eggs per year more for the blue egg hybrids and you are not guaranteed the egg colour - being a low risk taker I went for the pure breed to get the egg colour guaranteed. puddleduck
mine should have an 80% chance of blue or green I'd just be grateful of an egg regardless of colour as she has never laid one! (aprox 37 weeks old)
