joybelle
I like to make shepherds or cottage pie now and again but its difficult to find decent old potatoes this time of the year. I boiled some today and they turned out like sloppy glue!! Can anyone recomend a good instant mashed spud. My experience is that most are disgusting. Ain't Nobody Here
It's something I've never ever bought but we're off to the wilds of the West Coast on Saturday and I'm taking loads of cheating type meals (packet mixes and the like!) including packets of Smash (life's too short to peel & boil potatoes on holiday!) so if no-one else responds, I'll get back to you in a fortnight . Cinnamon
Smash is a great store cupboard stand by. It makes a decent mash & can be used to thicken stews, soups & casseroles too I am all for a little convenience,me Rooster spuds are around at the moment & they mash up well
craftyhunnypie
We sometimes have it as a standby in the caravan. Lidls is fine. I always spruce it up with some grated nutmeg, or some chopped spring onions. You can't really beat Smash though. Emma.x

Old Speckled Hen
I find instant mash is OK if you boost it up a bit. A huge dollop of butter and an egg yolk after you've put in half the recommended amount of boiling water.
majorbloodnock
To be honest, I just use whatever spuds I have available. Recently, I've been using new potatoes, steaming them for slightly longer than usual (about 25 or 30 minutes instead of my usual 20), then chucking them in a saucepan with some butter and milk and mashing whole. I don't peel them (the skin adds to the taste and texture) and I'm not even too careful to get all the lumps out, since once again it adds a bit of interest. By the time the mash has cooked some more over the top of a cottage or shepherd's pie, any lumps are smoothed out further anyway
Guest
Asda do a very nice frozen mashed potato in their Extra Special range. Pop it in the microwave for a few mins with a nice dollop of butter. Lovely for Cottage or Fish pie topping
missuscluck
Morrisons do one in the freezer section. Its their own make and I think you can get 2 bags for a quid. My neighbour swears by it with a dolop of butter. I have tryed it as she gave me a bag of it to try. I thought it was nice but it wont wash with my lot as the are spoilt ruined rotten with home cooking which is totaly all my own fault. I gave myself a week off this week after catering for hubbys birthday and they have had white sliced this week from the shop. Hubby suggested yesterday that I ought to get the breadmaker out

Lewis
I love instant mash! Its so quick + easy, and if you get instant mash, instant gravy and stuffing, add boiling water and ready cooked chicken, mix it all up = teenagers version of a meal!
