Best Greek Island for kids?

Recommended Posts

Ummm Minorca!! I know it's not Greek, but Greece very hot for smalls. Had fab holiday in Minorca when my two were youngsters, lovely beaches, small island not much driving to get around, very family friendly.

Just got back from Crete, ony saw 1 cloud whole week, temp in mid 30's, kids lived in pool or air conditioned bedrooms, too hot for sightseeing - not that I expect much sympathy for that!!

What do you like to do? Perhaps Mark Warner type holiday (if you've won lottery?) would please both you and kids. I'm a bit of a sloth on holiday so not much help when it comes to activities.

Have a good time wherever you choose.

We've been to 15 (maybe 20) different Greek Islands. I would say that ALL cater for families and couples (like us who want a quiet holiday) IF you pick the right resort on the Island.

Most also cater for boozy 18-30 types - these resorts tend to be well known so that fussy people like us can avoid them (which suits everyone).

Greeks LOVE children and taverna's will always make you feel welcome.

Even if you don't travel with them, this web site is useful to identify islands/resorts

http://www.simplytravel.co.uk/

I thoroughly recommend this company - you can speak to a real person on the phone who has been to the accomodation that you are interested in.

Maybe look at flight times, tranfer times etc. - to pick best option.

How close to beach - do you need a car?

Is beach sandy (many are more like pebbles)

Let us know what you decide - or if you want any info on particular islands when you've narrowed it down a bit.

I went to Pefkos in Rhodes last year Scrambled. I went in June when children were still in school so it was really quiet. Really lovely place, big enough to walk to resturants and the beach but big enough to eat in different places each night.

I've been to Cyprus (staying near Coral Bay, Paphos) a few times as my aunite has a villa out there. I've loved it there everytime i've been. We always rent a car and go to Polis(across from Paphos) and get a boat ride from there to the 'Blue Lagoon'-heaven. :D Cyprus does get very hot in the summer months though. I've been in October and the heat was much more bearable but my aunites pool was chilly!

I agree with Hazel in that most Greek islands cater for 18-30 holidays. We went to Crete a few years ago and loved it-people realyl friendly, food lovely and great beaches. However my cousin has just gone to the same place as us and hated it as there so many drunk people, glass on the floor, people selling stuff on every street(quad bike trips etc).

There are so many Greek islands to choose from and they all differ but i have found that the people are always really friendly and the food is lovely.

We did a first choice all inclusive holiday to corfu with our teenagers(who were far too old for where we went) but we only went as it was cheap /sunhine swim pool lots of young kids in the pool/lots of activitie for them if they wanted to join in during the day and evening!

One evening we stumbled on a singing contest of youngsters(so funny)

we only went for one week for sunshine and laying by a pool...wouldnt go again but it was good value & full of families and ideal for small kids. We had a spotlessly clean apartment and the food was excellent. All day the kids and adults could have as much icecream drinks food was served all the time and it was a great quality..ideal for little ones

Got to say the airport at Corfu was crowded going home and we had to queue outside with half the world going home

First choice were good .. worth a look..I am the worlds biggest s"Ooops, word censored!" and was pleasantly surprised

good luck indie

went to Coral Bay years ago and it had a major cockroach problem - must've cleaned up as people since have said how nice it was. I mean major, they dropped out of cupboards  came up the overflow when you were showering and came out of pubs as you went in  we never went back - I suspect they had to clean up their act.

All the Greek islands I have been to are good for children. We have travlled with our girls since they were tiny & have been to Kos,Cephallonia & Zakynthos with them.

But as mentioned before,Minorca is perfect for children too. Its cooler, breezier & they are really geared up for famailes.Cala Galdana is lovely.

If you are set on Greece, then Cephallonia is my favourite - its a bit less touristy & simply beautiful, but Zakynthos & Kos are both also brilliant for children.

Try a Thomson family resort - they are great for smallsters :P
