Happy chickens!
Husband and I want to learn Greek, but no classes around here, so wondered about trying some software. Rosetta stone keeps coming up but seems very expensive, so wondered if anyone here had tried it and if so was it worth it? Thanks.
Space Chick
It has a good reputation but as you said is expensive. Are there any beginner Podcasts or online options you could consider first that may be cheaper? I had a friend who was learning Greek and its a very difficult language to learn. Happy chickens!
Thanks Debs - have tried a few of the online freebies like the bbc, but hasn't got us very far - can say our names!! As you say difficult language, but have bought land in Crete with the intention of building on and then retiring to (with chickens, goats, bees quite a dream!!) so long term project. Redwing
Is there a uni nearby that offers Greek as a subject, there must be some poor impoverished students who would consider tutoring you
Happy chickens!
Nearest unis are good 30 mins away - also OH works away in week, so need something flexible. Don't know any Greeks either! Keep the ideas coming!!
Scramble
A boy in my form is Greek, speaks it fluently as he was born there and his dad's Greek. I'm sure he'd teach you He has the drawback of not being able to write in Greek though or read it But speaking and listening
Woodcat
hey you might want to look into the 6 months money back guarantee thingy the advertise i don't know what the conditions are they are usually quite strict but it's worth a look
Lewis
He has the drawback of not being able to write in Greek though or read it But speaking and listening I know someone thats the same with chinese, he can write a few words though. Scramble
You'd think just a 'Y' would mean man, as in...never mind

Alis girls
No but OH got Spanish tape and book today - we are off to Spain in 3 weeks. Cue for us to sit round table to hear Carlos sounding very perky and way too fast as we struggled to say how are you? good morning etc etc - that after we all gigged about in our chairs to the jolly music - so if you;re anything like us and I bet you arent - give up - Hola
Happy chickens!
The funny thing is I already speak a few languages - absorbed them easily in my younger days!! OH doesn't speak any, so we are starting from level playing field together. Have always done languages in a school/uni, so you're probably right, nochucks yet! Love Spanish so any help you need there, no problema - have a fab time!
Happy-Mama
Hi, will be tomorrow evening before I can get back to you but I definitely will. OH is working away at the moment so I only speak to him once a day
Happy-Mama
Hi, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Yes it was rosetta stone that was recommended to my OH, apparently it is really good if not a bit expensive.
Saronne
Very good reputation, but, as others have said, expensive. They do sell secondhand on Ebay and Amazon, though. Saronne

No chucks yet - if you want to start up a spanish thread, will happily chat with or without hiccoughs
