Picked our first three chickens (POL) up this morning, I was so excited I woke up at 4.50am and couldn't get back to sleep- but was under orders NOT to wake up the OH til 9am-

argghh the wait was driving me crazy!!

Anyway, went and picked them, we chose a Sussex Star- called her Tikka, a Daisybelle who we called Chilli and a Bovan Goldline called Ginger

Chilli was oldest and seemed more confident than the others, so would not surprise me if she will be boss.

We were advised to put them in the coop and leave them to settle for 15 minutes and then let them into the run

We have done this but they hid in the coop all day, just as it was getting to dusk they started poking their heads out to see what was outside pop hole,

It's all shut up now- auto door, so I am hoping when I wake up in the morning at least one of them has found the bravery to come down the steps

When they do make it out I will get some pictures up on the thread

:D

Tee heee be prepared to be excited from 5am most mornings for the next few months!!! :)

Happy Chook Keeping. Enjoy :)

Wee suggestion :) pop the kettle on on-route to the cube then enjoy the vibrancy & silence of dawn with just you & the chooks - its the most amazing time of day before the world & the human commuting working rat race commences :)

I have just got back in from my morning coffee with the girls! LOVELY!

Great news on your girls and I hope this sun stays out for you so you can fit in as much chook watching as possible!

You think getting the chooks is exciting!? Wait for that 1st egg!

Looking forward to pics! :D

Still in hiding, hole opened at 5.15am

(I was watching)

They were awake and plodding round coop when I put washing out at 6am, I've said good morning, now it's 8 and I am eager for them just to come out and see what's down the ladder.

Weather forecast is lovely for today here.

Can I shoo them out into the run or hall I just leave them, I just want some pictures :anxious:

Patience Missdiane patience he he, they'll adapt soon, try sprinkling a few treats I would think that'll get them down very quickly!! Few cut up grapes - although hey don't allow me to influence/encourage such bad behaviour already :)

Hmmm  You could just pop your hand in the cube, as if to stroke them & if they jump down from er fear . .then hey you weren't to blame, you only meant to stroke them ha ha. Guess you won't get much housework done today, bet you burn your meal & burnt offerings/dinners will be served late !!!
