puddled duck
hello I also have got two minature silver appleyards which are the same age as yours, our first pet ducks also. Called them Hamish and Puddles, although we have just discovered that Puddles is actually the male as his head has started to go green! I was interested to know what you feed yours out of your hand with? Ours love exploring the garden and are friendly. They will run up to you but any movement towards them with your hand and they run away. Was just wondering if I could pick up any tips to try and get them to come to my hand. Thanks Rebecca Hamish and Puddles Smokey the Chinchilla
Guest
Hi I use to just lie or sit on the lawn and hold my hand out with some pellets nearby around & on my hand (keep it still) and they will get use to you and take from your hand..or shake a little dish..try it when ie you let them out and they are extra hungry. Keep trying they will get use to you indie
MA0778
i feed my duckies with organic layer pellets i sit on the step with some in my hand when they come near i let a couple fall from my fingers gradually lowering my hand until they fed from it now when i open the back door they run to me expecting food.i have tryed all sorts of treats but they are not interested. if i have not been out to see them for a while they stand at the door and either peck at it or quack till i open it hope this helps Edited August 23, 2009 by Guest

It sounds like a dull drilling and it really drives us quackers and its all our fault as they must be the returners that we fed the previous year!.... They are all wild and this year we have now the matured ducklings(5+ mum) whose mum has been very good she waits for the rabble (approx 25 adult ducks) to come down first for pellets and then when she knows they have been fed , she toodles down as if she is royalty for her feeding session! She will not allow any of the other ducks near. I only have 5 chickens but at the moment get through 2x25KG of layers pellets a week, its the ducks that I am feedng not my chickens indie

Guest
Janty it is wonderful and when we came here the previous owner said your children will love the ducklings, but if I am away for a few days I worry about them not getting their pellets so my grown up children are under the strictest instructions to "remember to feed the ducks"! When they were small our local publican came in to feed I think it has something to do with feeding the ducks every sunday as a small child on visiting my grandmothers??um.. Very spoilt ducks indie
