oneyolktoanother
i have 3 chicks at 8 weeks old they are different weights as they are different breeds 1 light sussex and 2 legbars. They are on constant feed of growers pellets, i was wandering what would be the best way to worm them as they are on a constant feed i have flubenvet from pet meds can someone give me advice as we are first timers with chickens. Thanks in advance
Christian
If you have the 240g tub of flubenvet (2.5%) then mix 2kg of pellets to 1 level teaspoon of flubenvet. I find it easier to mix a small amount of it with the pellets and then mix those dosed pellets with the remaining 2kgs. They eat as many pellets as they need for their size, so by dosing the feed, each chick gets what they need. As they are still small, maybe mix up 1/4 teaspoon with 1kg of pellets? If you have a teaspoon measure it makes dosing easier. To be honest, I wouldn't worry about dosing them just yet. I waited until mine were 16 weeks old. Redwing
the process is the same for chicks as grown up chickens: measure out the amount of feed (in your case growers pellets) you need for 7 days (its best to go with less rather than more if you are unsure) and weigh it Measure out the recommended doe of the Flubenvet (the recommended dose should be on the package or can be found on here somewhere, it goes by the weight of feed) Mix the dose in to your measured feed, if you mix it in to a little then that in to more, then that in to the rest the powder gets mixed better than if you just dunped it in! obviously keep that feed separate from the rest of the sack! a tin/sandwich box etc.. is handy for this Feed only the mixed up feed for 7 days, the chicks will eat as much food as they need for their weight so get the right dose (clever eh?) If you run out of feed within the 7 days, mix up some more reducing the dosage to match the new weight of feed If you have any left at the end of the 7 days discard it Just noticed Christian beat me to it - go Christian!
