BeckyBoo Posted September 7, 2009 Share Posted September 7, 2009 OK, so it's about time I wormed the birds, got some Flubenvet, can I just confirm that there is NO egg withdrawal and can someone tell me roughly how much to put in their feed (I've got 14 so can't do it individually, was going to dose their feed for 7 days) - have looked at the sticky re Flubenvet but it's all very industrial! Chickendoodle Posted September 7, 2009 Share Posted September 7, 2009 Hi Just dosed ours - one scoop per 2 kg of food. We have 7 chickens and mixed 4 kg of food for the week (so 2 scoops) and put it in a separate container - mixed a cupful of feed with the powder first and a small glug of cod liver oil then gradually mixed in more and more feed until the powder was evenly distributed. Found this was a pretty good amount for 7 chickens for 7 days so would suggest that you mix double this for yours, ie 8 kg (that sounds loads but the maths seems to be right!) I am SO useless at searching, feel a bit guilty at getting someone else to do it for me, but they're done now! Chiccadees3 Posted September 7, 2009 Share Posted September 7, 2009 I have started worming mine today. I only have 3 so weighed out 1 kg of food and added the relevent amount of flubenvet. I put it all in their feeder as they have a habit of throwing it around so a lot gets wasted. Have i put too much out for them? Space Chick Posted September 7, 2009 Share Posted September 7, 2009 I am thinking of worming my lot again, as they have been eating a lot of slugs I'm going to have to do 2 sets, the ex batts mash and the other lots pellets, however, I have continued to give treats when worming. BeckyBoo Posted September 7, 2009 Author Share Posted September 7, 2009 according to the blurb you only withdraw the eggs if you double dose to treat gapeworm, I'm only doing "normal" worming, not seen any worms but am getting 2 eggs a day from 14 hens and am trying to eliminate excuses! (although to be fair, two are ex-batts from 21 months ago so they're entitled to retirement, one is disabled, five are at least 3 years old, two could be any age and all the rest are pure breeds even though they're last years hatches, not that that's an excuse but they're not the most reliable layers anyway!) Lewis Posted September 8, 2009 Share Posted September 8, 2009 It does seem like a tiny amount I think the 1% stuff will look like more, but I use 2.5% so the amount is tiny. I wormed mine a few weeks ago because I haven't seen any morms, but Matilda had a bit of a dirty bum and they are laying less regularly, and I might do it again in a few weeks just incase Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
TAJ Posted September 9, 2009 Share Posted September 9, 2009 Make sure you know which strength you are using - the newer milder version comes with a scoop and clearly states feed per scoop. The original is more concentrated and it works out at 1g per chicken for the whole course i.e. 14 chickens would equal 14g mixed into a week's feed. The only way i can guarantee all of mine get an appropriate amount is by sweetcorn and then i have to do 2 batches... for our older girls and then the chicks as they will turn their nose up at anything other than sweetcorn.... are they just fussy or have i just spoilt them. They looked at treated raisins with disgust yesterday to treat gapeworm.... do you use double the amount of flubenvet or do you use it for 14 days.... when people say double then i wasnt sure?? also.... if you find worms in their droppings after the first treatment, how many weeks to you leave it before treating them again.... is it 2weeks or longer??? thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
