I really don't think I was rude ....

Recommended Posts

i will probably be lynched for this but I have a problem with charities trying to get you to give regularly on the high street. I was once nabbed by a nice young man trying to get me to sign up to DD for great Ormond street hosp, I told him i didnt give bank details in the street. he was very pushy - i did say if you have a collecting box i will donate. i eventually said I'd get back to him Today the NSPCC were accosting people on the high street I shot in a shop :shameonu: I am sorry but I find it intimidating - please dont think I'm a meanie - i run a coffee morning every October for Breast cancer and giveto the poor soles in the street rattling boxes.

No, no lynching going on here. I quite agree.

Charity collections don't intimidate me at all, but do annoy me. It's my money, so it's my choice how I dispose of it. It so happens I do give to some charitable causes, but who they are, how much I give and what my reasons are for supporting them in particular are my business and mine alone. I'm more than happy to tell high street collectors where to get off if they try to construct a guilt trip on my behalf.

That said, I'm rarely on a high street, so I suppose I get it easier than most.

I'm will you, nochucksyet. You can't walk down Victoria St SW1 without getting chugged over and over again.

If we're on a group whinge, I've called both 3 and Barclaycard today. "Thank you for updating my name and address details.... can I have my marriage certificate back now please?"

3 clearly have no idea what they've done with it.

Barclaycard have probably filed it

Just as well I have three originals, but I daren't send the third off to the next company on the list

I wonder how many people do decide to donate when nabbed by these (usually attractive) young people on the street. We sit down and consider it at home and would never decide whilst out shopping. It is quite a financial commitment. I get fed up with people at the tills asking if you would like a loyalty card/store credit card/5% off if you sign up for this and that and when you politely decline they are rude and virtually throw your receipt and change at you

I get annoyed by chuggers because they try to guilt you into a financial commitment. We give to lots of charities by DD monthly so why should i be made to feel guilty for walking out of the dupermarket(oops supermarket lol) without giving to another one? I feel genuine guilt when I walk on by though :?

Oh yes - the street accosters. :silenced: We have been getting wildlife ones round at the door and very pushy this guy was too. Yes I agree, no I'm not filling in a form for a standing order/direct debit on the doorstep and I don't care how long I am allowed to cancel. If I want to donate I will. Of course then I don't like being rude to people at the door, but there is nowhere to escape without slamming the door in their faces. Garghhh!

No Redfrock, you weren't rude. But the guy was for not respecting your wishes.

While we're on a charity rant I get annoyed when charities I pay by direct debit and have done for years, ring me on a regular basis on the pretence of keeping me informed about them, when all they really want to do is to get me to increase my monthly payment or in some cases double it

When I tell them that I can't afford to pay more they still try to get me to increase my payment but by less :(

DH says that I should tell them that if they don't stop asking for more money I shall cancel my direct debits, but I can't do that as I'd feel mean

OOOOHHHHH yes I really get annoyed about this one. I give them quite a lot already and am lucky to have a secure job - but I can't give any more than I do and I get cross if they won't take (a polite) no for an answer!

You know Omlets become a Rantathon, I think its good we can let off steam annonimously and get advice, comfort and hugs from people who we (certainly in my case) may never meet but we have common interests and outlooks on life. wonderful.

the only reason I havent met anyone is there is no one really in my area of the Capital so unless you Northern Lasses converge on the capital for a weekend will have to make do with the forum
