4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

We have been to collect our new (and first ever) chooks today.

 

They seem to have settled in very well so far!

 

They are Gingernut Rangers and we have named them Elvira, Mina and Lilith

 

Our English Bull Terrier Dolcie isnt too sure though, she was quaking when they first arrive, but is getting used to them now.

Just a quick question too. One of the hens is pecking at anothers tail feathers. She hasn't pulled any out yet, and the other hen doesn't seem bothered by it, but she's been doing it ever since we got them home.

 

Is this just something they do to establish a pecking order?

They could be establishing the pecking order, keep an eye on it and if it continues try squirting the offender with a water pistol or plant sprayer on jet setting every time she pecks. It should stop her in her tracks!

Thanks! Ill give it a try if she is still doing it. She doesn't seem to be hurting the other one, but ill keep an eye on it just in case

We had 2 eggs when we got up this morning, then my son called me at 4pm and said we had another 2!!

 

We only got the girls yesteray afternoon so im really chuffed!

And after seeing your lovely hen house in a pen, my OH has now decided he's going to build one for our girls house too!

Hes building a WIR? Wow, that was quick work, well done It will be great, everything is sooo much easier with a WIR, cleaning, changing water, filling the feeders etc. Keep us posted because we do like progress photos on here
