ali-s
Sewing machine, sewing kits, knitting needles and different types of yarn. The yarn comes with a pattern. Two types of the yarn have a sock pattern included, one of the yarns look similar to pom pom yarn and includes a scarf pattern. http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c.o.20091022.index.ar2

ali-s
I am going to get to the shop early as I always seem to miss out the specials I am interested in. Thursday is my day off next week I would like some of the pom pom type yarn to knit scarves for christmas presents, and a box of sewing threads. I was hoping they would have cotton yarn included as that makes great dishcloths, much better than dishcloth yarn or the expensive Peaches and Creme cotton yarn. Snowy
Those sewing machines are supposed to be really good value too!
Blackrocksrock
That looks great value - Ali - try the poundstretcher shop next to tk max in elgin for wool - huge balls of wool for very cheap double knitting and would do for pom poms - they also did small balls and I thought it was good value. riane
me thinks I need to find a Lidl on Thursday!
craftyhunnypie
Ooo thanks for that. I shall be there on Thursday. I can never have too much wool etc. Mind you, I'll give the pom pom wool a miss. It is so hard to knit with. I bought a ball of the real stuff at nearly £9 a ball. It came with a pattern for a basic scarf. Mine looks so wrong. You have to knit a stitch, pinch the pom pom between your fingers & then knit 2 stiches, pinch the pom pom & knit 2 stitches again etc, then end the row with a knit stitch. 2 stitches between every pom pom. I can not do this & I'm a keen knitter. It's embarrassing I'm also mad, as the wool wasn't cheap & I really wated that scarf! Emma.x
Blackrocksrock
Ah you mean the wool with bobbles already on it - its hellish to knit with and I could not contemplate knitting with it at all. I thought you wanted to make pompoms
craftyhunnypie
Off to Lidl in a minute to fill my trolley. Hope they still have some crochet stuff left! Emma.x
craftyhunnypie
Yay - I'm back with my booty! I got 2 packs of different size crochet hooks. The sewing set with the pre wound bobbins. Some Pink & white stripey wool. 2 sewing containers. I also bought a few foodie bits & 2 lovely heathers to go in my window box. Thanks for telling us about this! ali-s
An early trip to Lidl this morning. I came home with 2 packs of the pom pom wool, the cotton thread, a cabbage for the chickens, 5 packs of firelighters, 4 boxes of matches, a box of cat biscuits and 10 pain au chocolat

Chook n Boo Mum
Had a poorly baby all day, so I hope they've some left tomorrow if she's well enough to pop out or Daddy stays home with her for a while Sha x
craftyhunnypie
Right guys - I've just opened my wool I bought today. It's the pink & white fontana wool. It has a scarf pattern in it - but it says 24 stitches...edge, garter 3, ss16, garter 3, edge. What on earth is edge stitch? Not heard of that before. What did everyone else buy? I can't wait to do some more Amigurumi with my crochet hooks. Emma.x
Chook n Boo Mum
Would that be a single knit stitch to prevent the scarf from folding in at the edges....my mum always advocates a single knit stitch at the start of a purl row to prevent folding/rolling in...I could be wrong.......I await an experienced knitters thoughts.........just phoned her & she's never heard of it & suggests as above, plain knit stitch at each end of the row Good luck, Sha x
craftyhunnypie
Thanks - I think it probably could be that yes, that would make sense. I have so many projects on the go at the moment. At least I don't abandon them, I just do a bit of each every day. I've managed to finish my nephews cardigan back, now onto the right front. I have Xmas trees, sheep, teddies, Scarves & lots of crochet on the go! Emma.x
craftyhunnypie
I've knit about 4 inches of my scarf with the fontana wool from Lidl tonight. The self patterning is lovely & I like the garter stitch edging. I bought the pink / white set. I might need some more of this for Xmas prezzies. Chook n Boo Mum
I got a sock set & am trying knitting on 4/5 needles for the first time....don't think I'll be making socks, but wrist warmers may be a popular pressie this year Sha x
ali-s
Is the pattern which came with the sock yarn for DPNS or a circular needle? I was tempted to buy some of the yarn but can only knit socks on ordinary knitting needles and wasn't sure whether I could alter the pattern myself. craftyhunnypie
Socks on ordinary needles? I need that pattern! Going Lidl again today, to buy more wool & more heathers. Emma.x
Chook n Boo Mum
DPNS............err does this mean double ended needles, if so yes, and very fiddly it is too, but I've had a go & am persevering, no doubt Mum will have a few comments at the not so neat appearance of my end result, but it is my first time & I've muddled through on my own..........it's amazing how easy 2 knit 2 purl ribbing is to get wrong in such a small space I also got the Fontana scarf & am quite taken with the orange, pink, purple colourway........sounds but looks good so far Sha x
