Gelbel
We've all heard stories of doing the family shop and thinking of the fruit and veg you buy with a view of whether your feathered friends will love them or not as a treat.....been there, brought the sweetcorn. I think I have truly lost the plot. I was just watching my Sky+ of last night's Strictly and found myself mesmerised with Bruce's hair piece. I was psyching myself up to go and do the weekly deep clean (I've got a really nasty cold and the thought of doing it was nearly making me cry) and I got to thinking that his hair piece would make good run flooring material. When I pointed this out to the DH, after he picked himself off the floor from he announced I had truly lost the plot as far as my are concerned. So what did you do that convinced you that you were too besotted and had totally lost it?
Space Chick
I think the chookcam was maybe a step in the obsessive camp This follows the going from 4 girls to 12 in less than 6 months and spending ALL the money and more besides that we had set aside for a summer holiday this year on building a Walk in Run so they'd have a bit of luxury. Our summer holiday was spent in the garden with the girls, one of the best holidays ever
House MD 221B
I look at everything with a view to the chickens... food, play things, could I hang that in the run and would it be interesting for them But I LOVE that Bruce's hairpiece made you think of run flooring lol, genius, every time I see it now, I'll think of that. Chicken Shirl
We are the same. I never go to the UK unless my DH is here to look after them. We are never away from the house for more than four hours. Sit with them for hours and hours. Spend fortunes on Organic pine nuts which they all have a handful of every evening before they go to roost. Bore our friends to death talking about them. Leave daytime parties to come home to feed them. Yep! we are lost to the magic, and we love it.
chick wiggle
Oh Yes, all of the above , except the webcam which, funnily enough, i have just been googling the 'how to' sites to put one in the run Unfortunately they may just as well have been written in chinese for all the sense they made to me ( *note to self* must kidnap space chicks OH until he fits one for me!) cluckingmad
Superb thread btw Erm, not entirely sure when it happened, but we've both definatively lost it where the ladies are concerned.. spend hours standing in their run while they scratch around my feet lost in thought as to how to make it more fun for them during winter, going to specific store because someone on here has said they have sweetcorn on offer, just because the girls love corn on the cob, grumbling about how messy they've made the decking/digged up all the bulbs/eaten the veg plants then fall about laughing when I whistle and they all come hurtling to see me.. the list is endless and I wouldn't have it any other way

docsquid
Hmm...I just had to buy the sweetcorn in the supermarket today for the chickens. I seem to view everything in the shop on its potential as a chicken-spoiling treat. And I'm really, really dreading it if DH insists they go to the wood. I simply can't imagine the garden without them and they've only been here a week!
cluckingmad
Surely he wouldn't, would he? I suspect he'll be totally besotted with them by now and would balk at the prospect of having to leave his girls up at the wood... (has anyone else noticed that even if its your idea, you pay for the chooks and set everything up and the OH didn't initially agree, that within a short time they are referred to as HIS girls?!) Yes! And how he now worries about the food levels, and I get texts in the morning reminding me to check their food... How did he think they survived before he fell in love with them

I suspect he'll be totally besotted with them by now and would balk at the prospect of having to leave his girls up at the wood... I'm just keeping quiet and hope they get to stay by default. However if they do stay they'll need a permanent base for the cube. I don't mind building this myself, but it will mean discussions will have to take place. That said, DH was talking to them again today and didn't think it mad that I'd bought some sweetcorn for them so...I don't know. I do want them to stay, they are little friends. I'd still see them every day, but not for long if they go to the woods. I just love that little friendly, hopeful cluck as you walk out of the door in the morning. chick wiggle
Sounds to me that he is already smitten and what with him been a 'totally, ingenius, clever, wonderful, gifted and talented hunk of beef cake' (thats what you say to him, works on mine ) building a little itsy bitsy WIR would be a walk in the park for a man like him!!!
