Pressie for 90 year old?

Recommended Posts

In my experience by the time people get to 90 they don't usually want a lot of things, and their needs are usually mostly taken care of. What about just some flowers, or perhaps a pot-plant that will last longer and give her pleasure? Or a box of her favourite biscuits?

One of my friends bought his elderly neighbour a Diptyque (sp?) candle for her 80th birthday! They're expensive though.

Alternatively why not look at Oxfam online, they have gift stuff and a lot of it is from overseas.

I think flowers too. And also agree about people of a certain age not wanting much anymore (my nan has given most of her stuff away so that she doesn't have to clean it).

I also think older people are less frivulous and so she would not be offended that you hadn't spent a fortune on her.

:D

I'd be inclined to get her something small but perfect...so quality rather than quantity, if you see how I mean?

The other thing is, I imagine that at 90 she will ahve a fairly pragmatic attitude toward "stuff"!

Maybe a really lovely scented candle, or really nice bath foam, or flowers. Does she like to read? Have no idea how much Channel make-up and the like costs, would the budget stretch to it, nail varnish set perhaps?

My grandma (who is now 101!) doesn't like fresh flowers, and prefers silk ones. There are only so many times you can get these, really :?

For her 100th birthday we had a big party, but she had a strict no-presents policy and asked that instead people donated money to the local children's hospice. It's so hard getting her presents anyway that this was a relief as thinking of what to buy her for such a special occasion was pretty hard!

What about a great film from her youth? .. Vic Pine (will come up on a google search ) specialise in films on DVD which haven't made it to DVD.(if you see what I've mean) I've just bought a friend a copy of Ken Russell's The Boyfriend, which has been unavailable on DVD previously, and she was very happy with it...

Or (and i am always banging on about this so apologies for repeating myself) what about a charity present? Oxfam and Save the Children do them or The Goedgedacht Trust will plant an olive tree for a small donation which goes towards very good work in keeping South African children clothed fed and educated and provides olives for future harvests that will go towards keeping future generations of children clothed and fed and educated...etc
