shelleybonbelly
Hi all, I have been dealing with a major red mite infestation and look like im on the winning side. During all this my hens all stopped laying and moulted. The feathers seem to have stopped dropping and i have noticed that the white flakes that i presume is dry skin is clearing up too. How long do you think it will be before they start laying again? They all seem as a whole much happier and i consider my husbandry lesson learnt. I will not let it ever get this bad again but really want some eggs soon as it has been probably nearly 3 months since i had the last one! Ain't Nobody Here
Glad to hear you've got on top of the nasty beasties . I'm not sure about when they might start laying again but I do know that the white flakes are the papery casings of the feather shafts! Hope you get an egg soon . shelleybonbelly
Oh ok, that makes me feel a lot better. I have noticed lots of new feathers come through and their heads look plumper and fluffier. Is their anything i can do to encourage? I give them layers pellets n the morning and corn in the afternoon.
Christian
I would leave the layers pellets out for them all day, so they can help themselves. It contains everything they need to stay healthy. The corn is a treat and should only really be given as such. A small scattering in the late afternoon is best, that way they will fill up on pellets. Good luck and hope you get some eggs soon
Jools
I think you may have to wait for eggs until next spring ..... sorry!
shelleybonbelly
Okay maybe i will just leave the pellets out for them. I dont give them anything else as the bantams dont get the whole issue of me throwing treats down at them and i and up with a garden for a compost heap. Jools - its a pain that i may have to wait but hopefully i will get all 3 laying next year.
