Fifibelle
We have two new girls at point of lay, Dolly and Polly and are trying to introduce them to the 2 year old girls Queenie, Mary and Dee with no success. They are kept in pen about 5 mtrs by 3mtrs. The new girls are in seperate run within the pen. At night the new girls sleep in the eglu and the oldies in the shed. We have had them for a week. They have been let out into the pen but Dee goes for them in a really vicious attack. The other two have a go as also. How long does it take before peace will return ? We are even thinking of giving the oldies away as we cannot bare to watch the young un's being attacked . Please give advice.
Space Chick
There is some really useful info about introducing hens here.... http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=25886 I have completed 3 sets of introductions, and my advice would be to supervise when they are together, armed with a water pistol. Any bullying behaviour and give the offending chicken a squirt. Taking a slow and steady approach is definitely best, and peace will break out in time
Fifibelle
Thanks for the information. I feel a lot more hopeful now. I'll let you know how the situation progresses.

cluckingmad
Hi Fifbelle Fret not m'love, a week is no time at all to a chicken when newbies are concerned! you're doing everything right letting them see, hear and smell each other - I sprinkle corn around the perimeter of the separating mesh/run when trying to integrate new girls, then they all eat treats together and start to associate each other with nice things. My little ones are also in a run inside the walk in run and are still kept separate about 5-6 weeks after getting them (although there is almost no stropping now when they free range together!) Best of luck, Carolyn x
coco
I'm introducing 2 ex batts to my girls who are the most peaceful easy going chooks ever. They run away as soon as the ex batts come out [supervised free ranging together] but they are getting better slowly. Like you its only been a week and I'm expecting it to take a few weeks if not months as the ex batts are always ready to have a go and my girls are definately not up for a fight. I also put food down so the girls can eat together.
