Mrs Frugal
NO!!! The full grown hens will peck it to the point where it may die!! Don't do it! Once it's the same size as they are, it's safe to introduce it but not any earlier than that.
Mrs Frugal
If one of your hens had been broody and hatched it herself, she may have accepted it but if they've not been broody, I really wouldn't attempt it. Maybe someone else will come along and give you a different answer but I think you're going to have trouble if you do introduce it.
Martin B
How big is the chick? If it is a few days old put it in a box under a low heat lamp, with a teddy bear!
Lesley
I agree Kate.
The Dogmother
Me too, I kept our chicks safely segregated from the others until they were big enough for them and their mummy to be introduced to the main flock. If it's very small, it will need keeping warm (as Martin said). Has it been seperated from it's mother and nest-mates? Chicks don't do very well without their mummy if they are small and will need soem attention from you to ensure that they thrive.
