The Dogmother
Bear with me, this takes a little explaining! ............. I had an email today from an old friend (we go back about 25 years and used to work together in London); she lives in Cheshunt, Herts now and commutes into London for work. 'S' regularly sees the same few people on the train and got to talking with them. It turns out that one of the women - 'L' - used to live in ******** (the town where I grew up) now S knows that's where I come from, so asked if L knew me (used my maiden name) as she seemed roughly the same age. Turns out that L is one of the 5 children who lived next door to us when we were growing up, we were forever in and out of each others houses. How odd is that?! It has completely thrown me and put a spring in my step.

Seagazer
Ahh Snowy beat me to it - it is a small world. DD's boyfriend lives in Reading and his mum worked with the girlfriend of my hubby's cousin. Very small world.
Griffin
I've just had my own 'small world' experience. My friend Jon part owns a few broodmares with another friend Julie. One of the offspring, a three year old filly, is about to retire from racing because it's not really her thing. Jon asked me to keep my eyes and ears open incase I heard of anyone who might be interested in rehoming the filly. Knowing some horsey folk on another chicken forum I posted a thread about her there. My friend Graham who I know from that forum asked me for more details. He lives and works on a stud farm. He then mentioned the filly to his next door neighbour. She was very interested and it now looks as if she'll be taking the filly home ASAP Jon phoned Julie to tell her the good news and said where the new home was. Julie then announced that she used to work at the stud next door many many years ago. She worked at the same stud as Graham! We're all amazed but very very pleased

How exciting! i must try and explain my wierd but true story, well not my story but... well hopefully you'll understand. My brother in law was a single man in his fortys still living at home with his mum (my MIL) my FIL died 10years ago. My BIL, Andrew, met a girl about 7 years ago, fell in love and now they are married. The wierd thing?. well... The girl is called Margaret - the same as his mum (my MIL) She lived in the same house that his Dad grew up in And her birthday is the same day as his Mum Also MIL and SIL both read the same books, both do needlepoint, love gardening ...... the similartities are astounding. We say his Dad sent her to get him out from under his mums feet so she could relax Sorry to Claret, back to you, are you gonna get in touch? ubereglu
That's quite funny. Not quite as good as another story I know. We went to Charmouth fossil centre and the guy there knew a certain model railway member that Dad is a friend of. Well his friend knew them and they went to Australia and bumped into someone else who had gone on holiday. They got talking and they both knew the same people and lived a few miles away from each other!

BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
my mum was on holiday sunbathing on a very famous and large beach in Australia. the beach was packed. as she sat there reading her book, then she heard a familiar voice next to her, and realised that it was an old school friend who had emigrated to australia in the 1950's!! Ain't Nobody Here
I love these stories . How lovely, Claret . Hope you get to meet her . I've got two "small world" stories ... My nephew went out with a girl in his class for a couple of years. They were both visiting his grandmother (my MIL) who asked the girl's surname. Turns out her grandfather was in the same class as MIL 70 years ago . They all live in Perthshire now but MIL and the girl's grandfather were at school in Aberdeenshire. and my one ... Years ago a friend of OH's started going out with a Japanese girl. When I met her I mentioned that I lived in Japan as a small girl. Turns out we went to the same school in Tokyo .
