Guest
Hi Looking for a low engine powered (for 18 year old son..insurance etc) Went to look at a VW fox + s"Ooops, word censored!"page they wouldnt budge from the £2K s"Ooops, word censored!"page..no other bargaining at all. Does anyone know if its possible to get a price reduction as well as s"Ooops, word censored!"page? or is the price fixed? I think I am being greedy?? Thanks for any help on this indie
HappyhenSG
No personal experience, but those apparently in the know suggest that you try to get the price down first before even mentioning the s"Ooops, word censored!"page scheme. Geoid
The s"Ooops, word censored!"page scheme is fixed by the government at £2000. Try asking without s"Ooops, word censored!"page.
docsquid
We have recently ordered a new VW using the s"Ooops, word censored!"page scheme. There is very little leeway for VW dealers to give a better deal because the cars are so popular that there is actually poor supply on a number of popular models. It is worth checking whether they can do a better deal on another model that is perhaps a bit less popular, and definitely worth checking whether they can also do a deal on a car without s"Ooops, word censored!"page. It is also worth checking other makes/models, because you could get a better deal on a less popular model from a less popular manufacturer - for example the Toyota garage next to the local VW garage was offering very good deals on the Aygo and IQ models and on the lower spec Auris. A low mileage used car that has done all its depreciating is also a possibility - brand new cars lose about 30% of their value the minute you drive them out of the showroom, so you could do better by getting a 1 or 2 year old low mileage car than a new one with s"Ooops, word censored!"page. Guest
Thanks very much, interesting responses..VW were then reluctant to give me a price if I was a cash buyer(cheeky) but last time they tried to sell me a £17K golf estate I got the same car for £14.5K elsewhere...They have a waiting list for a fox feb/march made in Brazil apparently I asked about ex demo...um the reason I asked as on a review site people paid less than the car s"Ooops, word censored!"page price end of 2009 so I was trying to negotiate to see if this was still possible. At the end of the day the budget is in place, just need to keep looking. Funny really its as if they are doing me a big favour spending my money, even tried to get me to believe it would help my sons credit ratings(he has none) if he got a car loan! Saw me coming as Harry Enfield would say Thanks though indie
bluekarin
We bought our new car, Mazda 5, and got £4000 s"Ooops, word censored!"page for our old R reg Renault Espace which was on its last legs - so much so we were worried it wouldn't drive onto the forecourt which is one of the provisos. I wouldn't imagine they'd drop the price and take off the s"Ooops, word censored!"page as well. But, I did hear some garages were offering cars with the s"Ooops, word censored!"page taken off for almost as much if not more than the price without it being involved. tsk tsk
redfrock
a friend of ours is a car salesman. We have both bought new cars from him this year. Mine was via a trade-in and Andy's was via the s"Ooops, word censored!"page deal. I bought a car similar to the Fox - the cheapest car they do, but the mid-range version of it, and I got the metallic paint for nothing and a good trade-in value. Andy bought a car similar to the Golf and got £3300 as the s"Ooops, word censored!"page deal - as some dealers are doing an increased s"Ooops, word censored!"page rate - however our friend was unable to do any deals for him, such the metallic paint etc. He explained that this was because the dealer makes so little money on these deals. On Andy's car they made £500, which had to cover registration, delivery etc. so they really do make very little on the s"Ooops, word censored!"page deals. This is probably why VW were being so tight on the deal. The little cars are selling like hot cakes, especially because of the s"Ooops, word censored!"page deal, and most of them now have long waiting lists into next year. It is because of this that they can afford to turn business away as they cannot keep up with demand as it is on the little cars, let alone do additional deals where they are making so little anyway. Hope this explains things a bit for you. I was really quite stunned when he explained it to me. He said that these days it is a but of a myth that you can walk into a car dealer and get thousands knocked off a car as suggested in the newspapers (unless you are buying something with a really extortionate price tag as it is). We couldn't even get do this buying through a good friend!
