Guest
made 21 bags of chocolate truffles for Ian's staff, 126 truffles! Phew! The bags also have home made gift tags on them. There were only 2 left for quality control testing at the end of it all but they were yummy! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4158570&l=84eb49480f&id=568396756 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4158569&l=97c83a2968&id=568396756 recipe is... 500g good quality dark chocolate 1 tin of condensed milk added extras of your choice put the choc and connie onnie in a double boiler and melt VERY gently. When melted I added a tsp of almond essence to 1 batch and a tsp of vanilla essence to a 2nd batch along with some chopped nuts. Leave to cool, roll into balls and put in the fridge to harden. The almond batch got covered in milk chocolate and the vanilla batch got dusted with icing sugar. I chose this recipe as the truffles will last longer than ones made with cream. Very nice indeed but I'm shattered now!
Lesley
Bad planning to only have 2 left for a taste test!!! They look lovely - I bet the recipients will be pleased. Has anyone found condensed milk which isn't made by Nestle? I did find a recipe to make it, on another forum, but it would be easier to buy it - I won't buy Nestle............and I want to try that lemon dessert recipe you posted. Guest
I think they're the only company that make it which is odd isn't it.
Space Chick
You can get other Condensed Milk. Tesco do one in the Carribean section, and they also have started a Farmlea condensed milk in the usual aisle but in a blue tin. the recipe looks fab, I have been after a truffle recipe which doesn't use cream Too late for my Christmas hampers though, as they have already been finished and delivered
Lesley
Thanks Debs - I'll start looking out for another make then, perhaps the CoOp have some.
Guest
Ian said they all raved about them and comparisons were made with Thorntons, so I'm tickled pink Shame the alternartive is stocked in Tesco as I avoid them as Lesley does with Nestle. My co-op only does Carnation, sometimes you can't win 'em all. We're getting a new M&S near us in the new year, wonder if they have an alternative, will have to keep an eye out. There's also rumours of either a sainsburys or a Tesco opening soon near us too, I'm really hoping it's going to be a sainsburys. Much the lesser of 2 evils as at least they don't sell battery eggs. hey ho.
Egluntyne
We used to be able to get Fussells condensed milk but can't any longer as far as I can see. Shame, as the recipe looked interesting.
Space Chick
I only buy things in Tesco when there is no alternative - the condensed milk is one of them

Patricia W
I found some Valrona chocolate in Waitrose yesterday so inspired to make these. I don't have a double boiler so is it ok to do it in a bowl over hot water? I know not to get the water in the choccy. Also what other fillings have people used? Couperwife
thats the way im going to do it. I also know that you shouldnt let the bowl touch the water, there needs to be a gap erm, i think im going to mix some crushed nuts in with mine cathy x
Lavenders_Blue
Resurrecting this thread as I'd like to have a go at these this year for Christmas pressies. I have just one question,do these go soft if kept out of the fridge or too hard if kept in the fridge? They sound absolutely delicious and I'm hoping to have more than 2 left over for quality control!
green
Yummy! Might have to give these a go this weekend.
Guest
I've made cake truffles/bites this year pics here http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=309635&id=568396756&l=9c180428bb I made a basic sponge/madeira cake and blitzed it in the FP then added some melted dark chocolate and butter, some icing sugar and amaretto, rolled them into balls and drizzled with white chocolate and added marzipan decoration. They're much easier to make than the condensed milk ones and taste lovely. recipe here http://www.best-chocolate-recipes-online.com/chocolate-truffles-recipe.html
green
I made mine with almond extract and crushed almonds and rolled them in cocoa powder. I will definitely making them again next year, they're delicious!
DebC
I hadn't realised that this was an old thresd, but thought the recipe lookede good so made and they were fab kept some for quality control as well! Sorry, I'm going to show my ignorance here but what's the objection to Nestle?

Valkyrie
ive not got enough chocolate I probably did at some point x I seem to remember you saying you were size 14 to 16 instead of 10 on another thread. Now we know why - sneaky choccynicker! But YUMMMMMM, Poet. Your truffles sound lovely (look lovely too). But at 16 stone (and a few holiday surplus pounds) I must resist the urge.
